Orchestra News

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
We are so excited to welcome back the amazing humans of the Tompkins Orchestras. We can't wait to see you and hear all about your awesome summer. For tomorrow, there is no need to bring your violin/viola. Starting Thursday go ahead and jump back into your routine of bringing your violin or viola to and from school each day.

SUPPLIES 2019-2020
Please see the following link for the orchestra supplies required for this year's orchestra experience. Please note we will be expecting all students to have all of their supplies by Monday, August 19th. The only supply change from last year is... that our Sinfonietta, Sinfonia, Cambiata, and Lyrica Orchestras will use Habits of a Successful String Musician (rainbow colored) however our Camerata and Philharmonia Orchestras will use Habits of Successful Middle Level String Musician (purple/yellow colored). If you already have this book from last year you may certainly reuse this book again. The easiest way to purchase a book for use would be to jump on Amazon or pick one of up from a local violin shop such as Lisle or Katy Violin Shops.

MANDATORY ORCHESTRA PARENT MEETING
Please mark your calendars for August 29th. One parent/guardian from each family is required to attend our orientation parent meeting in the Performing Arts Center. Parents of 9th graders please attend our 6:15pm meeting. If your child is in 10th-12th grade please attend the 7:30pm meeting. If you have children in more than one grade please plan to attend only one of these meeting times.

CHARMS
Most parents and students are familiar with the online organizational tool provided by the district called Charms. I am in the process of setting up freshmen charms account so please be patient before trying to log in. Detailed instructions for logging on and what to find on Charms can be found on our website www.tompkinsorchestras.org

LOCKERS
Violin and viola lockers will be selected on the first day of classes. After that time you will need to log on and look up your combination for your locker on Charms. This is the only way to access that information.

ALL-REGION / ALL-STATE CLINIC
Travis High School in Fort Bend is hosting a region clinic on September 21st featuring the string faculty of Baylor University. I would highly recommend attending if you have aspirations of making all-region or all-state orchestra this year. See link to flier for more information.

DISNEY PAYMENT #2
The second installment for our 2020 trip to Disney is overdue. If you have note paid please plan to drop off your payment to the orchestra office ASAP. The $275 payment should be made out to Tompkins Orchestra Friends. If this is the first you are hearing about the trip and would like for information regarding the trip please email Mr. Porter at your earliest convenience.

REMIND
Please subscribe to our Remind text update service at your earliest convenience if you have not already. All of our class codes have changed so check your placement on our website www.tompkinsorchestras.org and sign up for the corresponding class for reminder from Mr. Porter throughout the school year.
