Introductions

I am Dana Zbella; I am a family therapist that loves working in the school environment. I have a social work position here at enCompass and act as a school counselor assisting Alissa. I will be sending out a monthly newsletter to connect with all of you. Please read it and feel free to ask questions or comment. I can be reached at dana@encompassacademy.org or by calling enCompass Academy 775.322.5566

My name is Alissa Wilmet and as your school counselor, I take your academic success very seriously. I began working in education in 1994 and have been working with this program since 2006. Even though I know quite a bit about young people and education, I am still constantly learning new things and look forward to the lessons to be gleaned from our enCompass community this year. If you have additional questions about academic advisement or other school counseling resources, please check out my website www.encompassacademycounseling.weebly.com or contact me directly alissa@encompassacademy.org
ANY SCHEDULING CHANGES need to be to Alissa by MONDAY, AUGUST 26!

Paws 4 Love

enCompass Academy is involved with Paws 4 Love. Paws 4 Love is an organization that encourages literacy, volunteerism and overall well being in our community. Studies have shown petting an animal can help to lower blood pressure and heart rate; it can also help with anxiety and depression. We have approximately 6 dogs that come to visit us, some once a week and some once a month. A lot of our students seem to really enjoy the dogs! And if there are any allergies or concerns please let me know. Dana 775.322.5566

Restorative Practice & Circles

Restorative Practices (RP) is an approach that helps people to strengthen relationships, build community and prevent conflict. It is proactive in making, developing and maintaining relationships. It is responsive in repairing harm caused by challenging behavior or conflict. It does not necessarily take the place of disciplinary action.

Building relationships is the most important factor for using RP effectively and one way enCompass builds community is through Circles. Circles engage students and staff in discussions using trained facilitators to proactively develop relationships and build community. Circles give everyone an opportunity to speak and listen to each other in a place of organized decorum, safety and equality. The circle offers the ability for everyone to tell their stories and offer their perspective on a variety of topics that develop in complexity as the community grows its strength.

Free Dress

Students can earn a FREE DRESS pass once a month by having a 95% attendance rate for the previous month. They will receive colored wrist bands to wear on their wrists the day before so parents, guardians and staff members know the free dress is permitted.

We are looking forward to another amazing school year!
