Welcome 2019-2020 PTA Leaders!

The Weekly Waves newsletter is sent out to all of the PTA officers and key chairpersons for the current year. Please check to see if all of your current board members received this newsletter, and if they didn't, let us know!  Make sure we have the name, office, and email contact for your Board officers, including Membership, Reflections, EPrep and Advocacy chairs to make sure you get all the current news!  Corrections or updates can be sent to secretary@lwptsa.net.

Back-to-School Training Conference

WSPTA Region 2's Fall Conference is this Wednesday, August 21st, 3:00-9:00pm at Newport High School in Bellevue.

Training is vital for your entire board. Please join us for this FREE training and leadership development opportunity for all PTA leaders. PTA and the Law will be offered, and is one of the most important classes you will take every year. Start your PTA year off on the right foot by joining officers and PTA leaders from our area for training, networking, and all the latest PTA news and information.

A light dinner will be offered. Please register here so we know how many to expect for each class and at dinner. Make sure all of your PTA officers are aware of this opportunity and attend if they are able!
If you have any questions, contact Brandi Comstock, LWPTSA EVP.

LWSD Volunteer Program

Did you know there are currently over 17,000 approved volunteers for LWSD?. All volunteers must go through the district’s volunteer application process and be approved before volunteering at any LWSD school. Note this also applies to enrichment program vendors.

A few reminders about the volunteer application process:
  1. Volunteer applications are good for two years. Reminder emails are sent 30 days before applications are due to expire.
  2. Volunteers who are approved can log into their Raptor Volunteer Portal to check the expiration date of their volunteer application.
  3. Volunteers can also contact Chris Robison to check on volunteer status.
The LWSD Volunteer Program Supervisor can check volunteer status, generate a list of approved volunteers for PTSA purposes, and if your PTSA is having trouble recruiting volunteers, email all the approved volunteers for your school. The volunteer department’s peak time is mid-August through mid-November. During this time, it can take up to two weeks to process an application.

  2. Create a flyer and save in a pdf format.
  3. Fill out a Flyer Submission Form for PTSAs and Booster Clubs,
  4. Email your flyer and the submission form to your school Peachjar uploader if you’re targeting your own school. If you want to reach other schools in addition to your own school, email the flyer and the submission form to Chris Robison.

Presidents & Principals Workshop

Tuesday, September 24

LWPTSA Presidents! Having a good working partnership with your principal is fundamental to an excellent PTA year. Please join your school principal for this once-a-year workshop, to kick off the new year on a strong footing. All principals are required by the district to attend, so don't leave them orphaned and please make it a priority to join them. If you cannot be there, find another officer who can stand in for you.

Presidents & Principals will focus on a specific topic that schools and PTAs can work in collaboration on for the benefit of their community. We will announce this year's topic as soon as it is finalized: past topics have included grants, extracurricular enrichment, communication strategies, and more.

Date: Tuesday, Sept. 24
Time: 10:30am-12:30pm
Location: LWRC Board Room
Have any questions? Please contact LWPTSA Council President Mindy Lincicome.
