The Confirmation meeting for our Year 6 Confirmation candidates and their families was held in Week 2. We prayed together and heard of the importance of the final sacrament of their initiation into the Church. The Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation, welcome us into the Church family. They help us to grow in friendship with Jesus. The Sacrament of Confirmation invites us to play a bigger part in the life of the Church. In this sacrament we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. It confirms the gifts of the Holy Spirit given to us at Baptism – wisdom, understanding, right judgement, courage, knowledge, reverence and wonder and awe. When we love Jesus the gifts of the Holy Spirit begin to change us. These changes are called the fruits of the Holy Spirit. They are spiritual fruits – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control.
The Confirmation candidates attended their Commitment Mass last Saturday night. They gave a personalized Prayer Card to a parishioner, asking them to pray for them as they prepare for Confirmation. The children will engage in a range of reflective and creative activities at the Confirmation Reflection Day on Monday, 2nd September. They will also participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday, 4th September. The children will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, 7th September.
This Mass was also our Parish/School Mass for Term 3. It was wonderful to celebrate the Eucharist with our parish and school community.
Please pray for these children and their families as they prepare for Confirmation.
