Dear Residents,

You may recently have noticed utility markings on your property and on nearby roads.  Some residents received a notice from Washington Gas stating that a recent survey was conducted and it was noticed that several outside gas meters needed minor maintenance.

Examples of this maintenance are:

  1. The outside meter and/or shutoff may be too low and needs to be raised.
  2. The outside meter may be leaning and needs to be straightened.
  3. Certain connections at the outside meter show beginning signs of atmospheric corrosion and need to be replaced.

There is no charge for these improvements and since the gas meter is outside no one is required to be home in order for maintenance to be performed.  It will, however, require that your gas be temporarily turned off.

Precision Pipeline is the contractor working for Washington Gas on this project.  Their crew will excavate at the gas meter and install the necessary fittings to correct any of the examples mentioned above.  The work usually takes a few hours and if someone is home at the time they will arrange to relight your appliances.  If no one is home at that time then please all Washington Gas at 703-750-1000 when you get home and they will send a technician out to relight your appliances.

If you have any questions, would like to confirm the information presented above or find out if your gas meter is scheduled for maintenance, please contact Washington Gas Manager of Operations, Chad Bartlett, at 703-750-4351.

Sincerely,
LMROA
