Berkey's Rental House

houseBerkey has owned the house next door, 2601 Berkey Avenue, since 2011 and have had it rented out since we owned it. The current tenants are moving out and the house will be available to rent to new tenants November 1.

Description: Four bedroom house, all bedrooms upstairs, one large bedroom and the other three average size. One bedroom does not have a closet. There is a large bathroom with a Jacuzzi that is upstairs and a half bath with a stool, sink, and shower on the main floor. There is a gas forced air furnace with central air.  A nice front porch with a swing. Also included is a water softener, a fireplace, a two car attached garage with a garage door opener. A very large refrigerator and a range are included as well as a washer and dryer and a dish washer. There is a full basement that can be used for storage.

Rent is $800.00 a month with an $800.00 security deposit. Tenants are responsible for the gas and electric bills, that will need to be put in their name. The church mows the lawn. The church reserves the right to store a riding lawn mower and trailer as well as a few other things along the north wall in the garage.

If you know anyone who would like to rent it, contact Lowell Nafzger.

Mennonite Creation Care

Berkey was featured in the latest Creation Care newsletter. Underneath beautiful photos of our garden, they write, "Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship, Goshen, Ind., is enjoying a blaze of purple monarda and yellow coneflowers this month. The 100' by 100' pollinator planting was the idea of Lowell Nafziger, who oversees the church's community garden. An abundance of bumble bees, swallowtail butterflies, monarchs and hummingbird moths are among the beneficiaries."

Mennonite World Conference

“Never has the world needed our message more.... Now is the time to risk everything for our belief that Jesus is the way to peace;... now is the time to live what we have spoken.” Ron Sider’s words to the Mennonite World Conference Assembly 11 gathered in Strasbourg France in 1984 famously launched Christian Peacemaker Teams, an organization that uses nonviolent direct action to confront systems of violence and oppression. Getting to Know

Denise

Denise Risser

I grew up in Middlebury, IN, and graduated from Bluffton University with a Business Administration degree. During the summers I worked in a factory making shelves. After college I worked at Camp Friedenswald, Bluffton University, and Schult Homes Corporate Office. I recently completed 19 years as Administrative Assistant at Bethany Christian Schools followed by a month of service as an office manager with Mennonite Disaster Service in Conway/Myrtle Beach, SC. I just started a new job at Goshen Health as Medical Staff Coordinator.

My hobbies include reading, being outside in nature, watching or listening to Cubs game, and recovering from knee replacement surgeries. I hope to replace the last one with something more active like walking or biking very soon. I have a small business as a professional organizer helping clients declutter and get organized.

I share a house on 8th Street with my twin sister Deanna. My brother and his family - including my 8 year old niece and 6 year old nephew- live in Goshen, as do my parents.
