NEWS & OPPORTUNITIES

Call for Entry: Gallery Alley

Downtown Wichita is currently seeking submissions for artwork that incorporates features that are inclusive and accessible to all including members of our community who are blind or visually impaired. Artists are invited to design and submit a public work(s) of art through the lens of a non-visual world.

They encourage artists to reexamine ideas about textures, sound and movement to create works of art that engage the whole person through an all-inclusive, multi-sensory, interactive experience for people of all abilities. Works should push and pull the boundaries of creative innovation to make the public installation one of the most accessible, forward-thinking public arts experiences for all members of the community.

View the Call for Entry and apply by August 30.

Register for the third annual Indiana Arts Homecoming

Registration is open for the third annual Indiana Arts Homecoming taking place October 24–25, 2019 at the Indiana Historical Society in downtown Indianapolis. The event is a gathering of Indiana’s artists, arts providers, and creative communities who are doing work every day to create opportunities that are vibrant, engaging, and embedded in the lives of our citizens. The conference is expected to attract more than 300 attendees from all communities throughout the state.

The theme for the 2019 Indiana Arts Homecoming is Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access: Arts for All. The conference will explore what "Arts for All" means in practice, inspire new ideas as participants advance their work using this specific lens, and deepen leadership and capacity for artists, organizations and communities.

In addition to the main conference, registration is open for a pre-conference with "TimeSlips". Developed by Anne Basting, Ph.D., the program is a creative storytelling method that helps people with mid to late stage dementia reaffirm their humanity and connect with staff, family, and friends. Rather than pressure people with dementia to remember, the program encourages them to cultivate their imaginations. This training is ideal for artists interested in expanding their storytelling skills and how they can infuse their practice into care settings. No previous experience in this work is required.

Paint Columbus Plein Air

The Sunrise Rotary Club of Columbus will hold their second annual Plein Air Paintout, Paint Columbus, September 20–22. This year the Paintout coincides with Exhibit Columbus, which brings architects, designers and students to create outdoor installations on display throughout the city. Competition artists will turn in up to two completed works completed en plein air. All artwork will be available for sale. Proceeds from ticket purchases, artist registration fees and sale of the paintings will benefit the programs and events supported by Columbus Sunrise Rotary.
