This summer, we say goodbye to Ambassador David MacNaughton, who announced his departure last week. In his statement, he left us with some advice: We absolutely must never rest on our laurels – but rather always seek to push further into new markets and new opportunities, around the world, while ensuring we retain our access to our most important market, the United States. Meet Canada’s First Ambassador for Women, Peace and Security

Earlier this summer, Prime Minister Trudeau appointed Jacqueline O’Neill Canada’s first Ambassador for Women, Peace and Security. In this role, she will be responsible for advancing Canada’s feminist foreign policy by working with global partners to meaningfully include women and girls in development, humanitarian, conflict prevention and resolution initiatives. Before leaving Washington for Ottawa, Ambassador O’Neill talked about her new role and what she hopes to accomplish. Watch the video.
 

Bilateral Cooperation in the Pacific Northwest

Canadians and American met in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan this July for the Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER)’s annual summit. Minister Ralph Goodale, Canada’s Public Safety Minister, told the crowd “One of our common goals over these past four years has been to “thin” the Canada/US border – to make it ever more efficient and expeditious in dealing with legitimate trade and travel, but always safe and secure to properly protect both countries.” He and our Consuls General in Seattle and Denver also touched on improving our border infrastructure to safely facilitate trade and ways the USMCA will help Canadians and Americans prosper. Rising State Leaders Tour Ontario

As part of our Rising State Leaders program, state legislators from Minnesota, Florida, Iowa, and beyond spent four days in five Ontario cities this summer learning about the depth and breadth of our bilateral relationship. From meetings with policymakers and stakeholders, to a tour of the Ford Motor assembly plant in Oakville, these legislators got an on the ground look at ways Canada and the U.S. work together.
