Redway Runners Virtual challenge 2019

Codebreaker challenge

This September sees the 80th anniversary of Bletchley Park opening and we thought this would be worth commemorating by making it the basis of our next Redway Runners ‘challenge’

I’m sure most of us know about the codebreaking activity that took place on site which was instrumental in helping the Allies win WW2 - This is your chance to try your hand at cracking codes to earn yourself some fantastic bling!

Now I know you’re all thinking that this sounds a bit difficult but in reality, this is so simple that children will be able to assist…… in fact this is positively encouraged to make it an educational as well as a fun challenge

So what do you have to do?

  • Firstly make your own enigma machine….. don’t worry full instructions will be provided!
  • Enter the challenge to receive your first code to crack
  • Take a photo of yourself at the location that is revealed and send it to us to receive your second code
  • There are 4 in total to solve to earn a fantastic medal and make some money for charity at the same time
  • We will then have a special (optional) run from a secret location where you will be awarded your medal to wear with pride….. and of course, demonstrate to your friends how clever you are

If you fancy getting involved to make some money for our charity and to bring alive a fantastic piece of local history, then sign into your Redway Runners Love Admin account, select 'event' and enter the challenge....

London Funderground

Sunday 6 October 2019 13:00. London
After last year's successful London Funderground Run, we are keen to make this free event bigger and more ridiculous than before. This event is suitable for all abilities.

You will navigate your way across London, taking in underground platforms along the way; total route approx 10-kms. Team points can be gained by completing crazy tasks; just how many people can you fit into a phone box? However, teams will also loose points by being 'intercepted' by other teams of marauders!

Start and finish will be at iconic landmarks easily accessible by train. Registration is very simple, just message tim.miles@talktalk.net

Individuals welcome as teams can be arranged on the day. As last year, we'll finish in a pub.

Will this be another victory for the ladies?

Hope to see many of you in green there.

Edinburgh Marathon Festival club place

We have secured for a Redway Runners member a place at the 2020 Edinburgh Marathon Festival which takes place over the May 2020 Bank Holiday weekend and offers something for everyone.

The fun kicks off on Saturday 23 May at Holyrood Park with a 10K, 5K and six junior races. On Sunday 24 May, the Edinburgh Marathon, Edinburgh Half Marathon and Team Relay start from the heart of Edinburgh City and continue through East Lothian.

We are going to give this place to the person who makes the highest bid, which will go to the club charity of the year, so if you want the place and are a Redway Runners member then mail rr@redwayrunners.com with the donation amount, we will accept bids till the close of the 31 August, highest bid gets it (once donated to the club bank account).

More about the event at:
https://www.edinburghmarathon.com/

Northampton Half - Can you help

The Northampton Half Marathon is on the Sunday after the MK Autumn half marathon the 29 September 2019,

We have been asked if we can help with the request below:

In return they will get to be part of an amazing team and get home made cake!  The town centre roles will only require help for approx 1 hour (until everyone has completed the 3.1 mile loop – hopefully no longer than that!)  We are creating marshal/cheer zones so if you are able to provide a few volunteers then I will provide a sign so runners can see that they are entering the “Redway Runners Cheer Zone” for example.

Anyway Sue B has offered to organise for Redway Runners and if you can help contact Sue B by mailing her at sue.boothby@btinternet.com

Marston parkrun

An extract from last week’s Marston parkrun report:

25 different clubs were represented, Redway Runners had the most with 10 (well they are the largest running club in the UK after all), but oddly I don’t think any were wearing their distinctive green vests, as I couldn’t find any in the photos.

Our status as the biggest club in the country seems well-established.

Bank Holiday Monday - On the Run

We have a special fun Bank Holiday Monday run, 26 August at 9.30am from Wetherspoons, near to Santander House, the station. With the run going 'On the run'

Last year this run was one of the favourite runs for many.

You will run in small groups, ideally about 3, each group will need a mobile to take a photo, you can either sort your own group out in advance or we can do it on the morning.

The run will be about an hour or a little over, but being on the run does mean you need to avoid the police!!

Run to Remember PC7605 Andrew Harper

Been asked to let you know about this by one of our members from the police service
----
Bank holidays are always very busy for the emergency services, and so this bank holiday Monday, we are inviting you to take time out of your busy schedule to run or walk 7.605KM in memory of PC 7605 Andrew Harper, who was recently killed in the line of duty.

For more information and to take part go to:
https://racebest.com/races/y3u72
