Remembering Sr. Victoria Ungurean
August 15, 1926 - August 12, 2019
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Sr. Victoria Ungurean, who went to rest in her sleep on the morning of Monday, August 12, 2019. Sr. Victoria was born on August 15, 1926 in Benham, Kentucky to parents Nicolae and Elisaveta. A few months later, Nicolae and Elisaveta took their newborn daughter to visit their parents in Bucovina (a region of Romania at that time). For unknown reasons they could not return to the United States, so Victoria grew up and went to school in Voloca, a village in the Cernauti Region of Romania. Together with her family, Victoria suffered the ordeals of World War 2 and then the Soviet occupation of Romania. Due to their background, they were also considered American spies.
In 1947, Victoria married Adam Onofreiciuk and together they were blessed with 6 children. After some time, Victoria learned of the Advent message and gave her heart to Jesus. In the autumn of 1961 she made her public commitment to Christ in baptism and became a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement. In 1975 her husband Adam passed away and she became a widow at the age of 49.
In 1993, with the assistance of some of her brothers, Sr. Victoria was able to return to the United States 67 years after leaving as an infant. She was deeply grateful to God and her church family for this opportunity. Upon her return to the USA, she lived in Roanoke, Virginia and later moved to Sacramento, California where she resided until her passing away on August 12, 2019, only 3 days shy of her 93rd birthday.
Sr. Victoria loved and served her Lord, and honored Him by song and poetry. She was loved and appreciated by her children and especially by her brothers and sisters in Christ. Those who knew her will remember her fondly. She rests awaiting the glorious return of Christ when the saints who have died will be raised incorruptible to live with Him for eternity!
The Funeral Service for Sr. Victoria will take place on Sunday, August 18 at 10am at Moriah Heights, 240 State Highway 16, Plymouth CA 95669.
