Madison tops Sport Illustrated’s 2019 roundup of the 10 best college towns across the United States. Joan Nieson of Sports Illustrated said her rankings focused on college town environment, landscape, food and drink offerings, culture and music scenes as important factors.

Delivering therapies with bio-engineered bacteria

UW Madison Computational Optics lab Lessons of conventional imaging let scientists see around corners

August 5, 2019
Along with flying and invisibility, high on the list of every child’s aspirational superpowers is the ability to see through or around walls or other visual obstacles.

That capability is now a big step closer to reality as scientists from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the Universidad de Zaragoza in Spain, drawing on the lessons of classical optics, have shown that it is possible to image complex hidden scenes using a projected “virtual camera” to see around barriers.

Exact Sciences Buying Genomic Health in $2.8B Cancer Diagnostics Deal

July 29, 2019
With ambitious sales goals and its stock trading at an all-time high this year, cancer diagnostics firm Exact Sciences decided to go shopping. The result is a deal announced Monday to acquire Genomic Health for $2.8 billion in cash and stock, a combination that Exact CEO Kevin Conroy argues will create a global leader in the sector.

The The four-day Wisconsin Science Festival is a statewide celebration with events across Wisconsin for people of all ages. Events include hands-on science exhibitions, demonstrations, performances, tours, pub nights, workshops and more. The Wisconsin Science Festival received the Key of Excellence Award from Phi Beta Kappa in 2014 for “blending science with both the arts and humanities to cultivate curiosity, inspire discovery, and grow knowledge.”
