Rising Sun Regional Foundation Donates $125,000 to the Ripley County Community Foundation
On July 12th, the Ripley County Community Foundation received a $125,000 grant from the Rising Sun Regional Foundation (RSRF).  This grant was awarded in response to Lilly Endowment Inc.'s event Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow initiative (GIFT VII).  The program, GIFT VII, allocates challenges to community foundations across the state, in which those foundations are to fulfill requirements in order to receive grant money.  One of those requirements is to raise $250,000 by December 31, 2020.  As a matching donation, GIFT VII will give a $2.00 match for every $1.00 donated to a community granting fund.  The donation from the RSRF will be matched by GIFT VII as $250,000.  Thanks to the generosity from RSRF, the goal of attaining $500,000 is within reach.

George Street, Suite B, Batesville, IN, or donate online at www.rccfonline.org .  GIFT VII matching funds will be allotted to donations on a first come, first serve basis.

Second Cycle of Small Grants Awarded
Quarterly, the Ripley County Community Foundation awards small grants (up to $500) to organizations that have needs arise during the calendar year.  The second cycle of small grants has just been awarded.  Those awarded are as follows:
  • Batesville Fraternal Order of Eagles ($500) - for Automated External Defibrillators
  • Bucket Buddies ($500) - for Buckets for Kids, filling buckets with toys for sick children
  • Main Street Versailles ($500) - for beautification and banners
  • Milan Middle School ($500) - for Leader in Me, teaching students leadership skills
  • Town of Osgood ($500) - for a new flushing system
The third cycle of small grant applications are due Friday, September 6th at 4:00pm.

Reed Struewing Awarded
The Doris A. Brelage Nursing Scholarship
The Ripley County Community Foundation is able to offer a variety of prestigious scholarships, one being the Doris A. Brelage Nursing Scholarship.  As a Registered Nurse and EMS Member, Doris worked at Margaret Mary Health Hospital as the director of nursing, head of surgical nursing, and director of infection control for 37 years.  This scholarship was established by the Brelage family in memory of Doris's untimely death.

This past month, the advisory committee for the Doris A. Brelage Nursing Scholarship came together and awarded the $500 scholarship to college student, Reed Struewing.  Reed, the son of Lisa and Mike Struewing, is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Northern Kentucky University.  He says, "I chose this course of study because I want to make a difference in peoples' lives and look back in 30 years, knowing I've made an impact."  Reed has completed over 200 hours of community service, which includes raising over $50,000 for the Alzheimer's Association in Cincinnati.
TURNOVER HUNGER
Pledge a dollar amount for each turnover the Varsity Football Team of your choosing (Batesville and/or Oldenburg Academy) forces during the 2019 Season. All donations received will be granted to Ripley County food pantries.
