Thank you for your positive response to the message in the last school newsletter about needing to improve our driving behaviours during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. The school feels a lot safer during these times and our students really appreciate this effort. Thank you!
Improving Communications
Hopefully you have already downloaded the Tahatai Coast School App. If you haven’t, please revisit the email that was sent on Monday this week or follow the instructions on the School Stream poster below. The reason for introducing the App is that we want to improve the way we share information and communicate in a more timely manner with you. We are moving away from using Facebook as we are able to better control our audience for sharing of photos and school information. The App provides an easy to use platform for messages, updates, sharing the school calendar and even can be used to let the school know about a student's absence. To manage which alerts/notifications you receive, simply swipe left on the category and either turn off the notifications or remove the category. Also see the information below on how to restore a category you have previously deleted.
Property Update
With a lot happening on the property front, I wanted to update you about a couple of projects. Architects are currently working through all the various assessments and reports to come up with possible remediations to make the office building weather tight. These designs will be shared with the Ministry of Education to then work through a cost comparison for either remediation or a complete rebuild. The Ministry of Education has advised us that there is still a lengthy process before any construction work can take place. It is unlikely we will be able to use this building (or a new one) until late 2020. Chaytor Fencing have made great progress with the fencing project. The new fence is 1.5m high and will provide a much safer barrier for our students during school hours. The fencing project is funded through Special Education support and will look fantastic when completed over the next couple of weeks.
Parent Information Evening
Next Tuesday 20th August (6-7pm), staff are hosting a parent information evening about the school's ‘Bring Your Own Device Programme (BYOD)’ in the school hall. We will also be sharing ideas for improving internet safety for you child when using their device at home. We encourage parents and whānau to attend and look forward to seeing you at this event.
School Uniform
I want to clarify what is considered uniform as we are seeing a number of different interpretations sneaking in recently. Just to confirm that school uniform is:
- Boys - School fleece, polo shirt and shorts. Navy blue track pants are allowed in terms 2 and 3 only. A short sleeve thermal is also allowed during terms 2 and 3. School branded hats are for terms 1 and 4 only.
- Girls - School fleece, polo, skorts or shorts. Long navy socks or navy tights are acceptable but no patterns, just plain navy blue. Navy blue track pants are allowed in terms 2 and 3 only. A short sleeve thermal is also allowed during terms 2 and 3. School branded hats are for terms 1 and 4 only.
If you have any questions around uniform feel free to contact traceyw@tahatai.school.nz or call the school on 5724600.
