Dear Colleagues,

As Bob Wachter recently announced, we will be presenting a number of new Department of Medicine initiatives at a DOM celebration for researchers on September 13, 4:00-6:00PM in the Lange Room at the Parnassus Library. In the meantime, here are some time-sensitive details about two of the new initiatives.

These initiatives were a direct result of the feedback and input that was shared by participating faculty members during last summer’s research faculty listening tour. We sincerely thank the Co-Directors who volunteered to lead these efforts and get them off the ground: Judy Hahn, PhD, and Larry Fong, MD, who are leading the PREPARE program; and Courtney Lyles, PhD, and Tien Peng, MD, who are leading the Team Science Planning Grant. Read on for more information and please join us on September 13 to hear more about these and other new initiatives!

PREPARE Program

PREPARE (PRE-Proposal Application REview) is a program to provide pre-submission grant review services with the goal of improving the funding rate for DOM PIs. PREPARE will provide DOM faculty investigators with concept sheet and full proposal review services by matching them with qualified reviewers from within the Department who have had prior funding success. Reviewers will be compensated for each review.

Reviewees can choose to have a concept sheet reviewed a few months in advance of the proposal deadline or can have a full proposal review. Faculty who would like to volunteer to serve as reviewers can sign up to be a part of the reviewer pool immediatelyFaculty who would like to request a proposal review can do so starting September 1, 2019, for submission deadlines after November 1, 2019. More details and sign up forms for Reviewers and Reviewees can be found on our website.

Team Science Planning Grant

The Team Science Planning Grant will leverage the DOM’s breadth and depth of research across divisions and campuses by offering grants of up to $100,000 for a period of 12 months to spur the development of new multi-disciplinary grant submissions. The ultimate goal of this DOM planning grant is to seed collaboration between our Department faculty members across disciplines and campuses that will lead to a 2020 submission for extramural multi-disciplinary research funding.

The deadline for this grant is November 1, 2019 with funding beginning January 1, 2020. To review eligibility criteria and program details and to apply, please visit the website.
