How a Junior Landcare grant launched a school food garden that successfully engages kids with produce
 

A school garden created to teach school kids about food produce offers them an opportunity to be up close with nature every day especially if they don’t have that chance at home.
 
With a 2015 Junior Landcare grant at St Raphael’s Catholic School in Cowra, local farmer and parent Alison Rutledge wanted kids to discover where their food came from while interacting with the school's food garden.

WOOLWORTHS JUNIOR LANDCARE GRANT APPLICATIONS CLOSE SOON


If your primary school or early learning centre has an environmental or sustainability project you want to do, you still have time to apply for a Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant.  

Over 500 grants of up to $1,000 each will be offered for projects with a focus on sustainable food production, improving waste management practices and enhancing native habitats.

Huon Valley Roamers Landcare began in 2014 with a vision to instill in every generation a love of caring for the environment, particularly children.

The group, which meets in the southernmost local government of Australia – the Huon Valley Council, Tasmania – has a strong focus on event-based activities for families.

Did you know that certain plants attract particular butterflies? Common Grass Blue butterflies love native lilac and the Common Imperial Blue live only on saplings of Acacias. The Frankton High School Eco team built an insectory and observed it first hand.
