 Happy Indian Independence Day everyone

As we celebrate our freedom and the opportunities that it made possible for all of us today, let us also make a promise to provide the same opportunities for our future generations.

At Asha for Education, we take a holistic approach to drive socio-economic change in India through the education of underprivileged children.

Asha for Education has been able to support the education of over 240,000 children across ~200 projects every year, all of this made possible by 1500+ volunteers from 50+ chapters and valuable donors like you. This Independence Day, we are proud to showcase some of our projects for our annual fundraising campaign, Work an Hour (WAH).

(Remember to have your donation matched!)
Donate to educate
The Work an Hour campaign is designed around a simple idea; if all of us invest at least one hour of our salary, it can create a significant impact on the lives of the children we support in India. Have you ever wondered if an hour of your pay could make a lasting impact? As an example, a $100 donation will support the education of 2 children of migrant laborers in Pune for one year at our Door Step School project. Please come forward and support us as we all Work an Hour to create a better future for the children of India.

Project in Focus - Human Uplift Trust

Human Uplift Trust (HUT) is running a home for AIDS Orphans in Perambalur, Tamil Nadu. The project was started with the support of Asha for Education's NYC/NJ chapter in 2008. Founded in 1983, HUT helps community members access their basic human rights. The Perambalur district of Tamil Nadu was identified as a high prevalence area for HIV positive people by the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control society. The main brunt of attack of the disease is borne by the women and children from the affected families. HUT in the process of addressing the medical and psychological needs of the HIV positive people found that the greatest concern of these people was about the future of their children. HUT is currently running a home for AIDS affected/orphaned homeless children. HUT provides these children with food, clothing, a safe shelter, periodic health checkups, psychological and bereavement counseling and access to quality education. The center currently supports 104 children.
