Introducing Our New Project Portal

Since our formation in 2017, the Experiential Learning Network (ELN) has been on a quest to make high-impact experiential learning more accessible and transformative for all UB students. Building on the research opportunities and resources formerly administered through CURCA, we are excited to launch an expanded array of projects featuring UB faculty, alumni, and partners, both locally and around the world.

Students can visit our Project Portal or stop by our Project Studio in 24 Capen (co-located with the Office of Fellowships and Scholarships) to find projects aligned with their unique interests, talents and goals.

Once they find a project, students can explore affiliated courses or get started right away via our new digital badge series modeled after our PEARL framework. (See how PEARL can help students activate their experiences in support of their academic and professional goals.)

Join our Project Portal by:
  1. Encouraging your students to visit the ELN website and find projects that connect with their unique interests and goals
  2. Inviting an ELN team member to meet with you and your colleagues to discuss possible projects or engagement opportunities
  3. Listing a new project that connects students with exciting topics, partners and collaboration opportunities
  4. Integrating a project into an existing or new course
We look forward to sharing featured projects and student stories through our ELN newsletter and social media platforms. Please help us spread the word and follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Course Infusion Funding Available for Fall 2019 Courses

Have you thought about enhancing a course through experiential learning? Our Course Infusion Fund supports the integration of hands-on learning activities within existing courses. Our resources can fund field trips, guest presenters or innovative programs that take students out of the classroom and into the community. There is still time to apply for funding to support Fall experiences. Apply soon before funds are exhausted. Submit a brief proposal or email Charlie Baxter with any questions.

List a Project on the New Project Portal

The Project Portal is powered by faculty and community partners who are interested in creating and sharing exciting hands-on engagement opportunities and research projects.

To list a project, submit our simple form. A member of the ELN team will review your submission, reach out to gather additional information if necessary, share a draft for your review, then publish your project opportunity for students.

Host Your Office Hours in 24 Capen

As a way to foster connections between students and faculty, the ELN invites faculty to host their office hours in 24 Capen, an open and vibrant space that accommodates dozens of students with technology and modular furniture. To schedule your office hours in 24 Capen for the Fall 2019 semester, please email Charlie Baxter

Experiential Learning Presentations

The ELN would like to introduce your students to the benefits of project-based collaboration and the PEARL framework. A 15- to 20-minute in-class presentation could be tailored to the needs of your class and would involve an invitation to connect with the staff in 24 Capen. Contact Charlie Baxter if you would like to schedule a presentation.
