Hello from a cramped train compartment on the way to Saratov!
Three years ago, I was thrilled to be part of a recording of sacred music that went on to get nominated for a Grammy (it lost in a field of some incredibly talented musicians). Well, we're doing it again. Last time, we had 41 men. This time, it's 60! I guess more singers means a better chance of winning the Grammy (I kid. Sort of).
Anyway, as I was sitting in this cramped train compartment (and by cramped, I mean I can't actually sit upright in it...), I was reading through some old written work of mine. I stumbled on one of the early versions of my first novel. It was called A Lamentation of Syrin at that point, and it was pretty... well, rough.
But as I was reading it, I thought how cool it was that various little elements here and there had made it into the final versions of several of my novels. So I thought I'd share it with you.
This fit really well with today's new release of the paperback of The Rusted Blade, the prequel novella to my Raven Son series. I've decided to clean up the free version I've been handing out for the last few months. Now, it will only be available for sale, but with A Lamentation of Syrin as a kind of "Tolkien-style appendix" added to the end. So! The Rusted Blade is now available for purchase in both ebook and paperback. Check it out on all online retailers:
As I gear up for a return to America, I thought I'd share some of the more interesting stories that I've been reading while in Belarus. In some ways, it's really the golden age of free internet long-form writing right now.
Next time you'll hear from me I'll be back in the US of A with a bunch of news and fun stuff to share with you all!
Thank you for coming along with me on my writerly adventures!
