This week, I explain what "Adventure Travel," "Hard Adventure Travel," and "Soft Adventure Travel" are and I look at whether or not you'll be a good fit for them.

This week, <<First Name>>, we're chatting about Expedition Cruise Vacations! And, I couldn't be more thrilled! Yup! I said "thrilled" because that's just what these vacations are - thrilling!

Let me say, straight away, that an Expedition Adventure is not right for everyone. If you have health concerns or mobility issues, an Expedition may not be right for you. Not to sound like a drug commercial, but please check with your doctor first before engaging in any activity that could lead to you hurting yourself.
CYA...Check! Moving on...
Unlike "Hard" Adventure Travel, I would place Expedition Cruises in the "Soft" Adventure Travel category. They're more about the exploration than the physical exertion. They're about getting off the beaten path. They're about not going to the tourist traps. They're about getting out of your comfort zone. They're about experiencing new sights, sounds, taste, smells, and feelings - not the plastic existence of our normal, everyday lives.
Companies like Hurtigruten, Uncruise Adventures, and Zegrahm Expeditions, are a far cry from the mass-market hedonistic cruise vacations of, let's say, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, or Princess Cruises. (I selected those three specifically because I like them, so you'll know I'm not just picking on any particular mass-market cruise line.) There are no Broadway shows, but there is entertainment. There are no specialty dining restaurants, but there is Michelin-quality dining. There are no casinos, but there is exploration, adventure, and personal growth. As I said, this isn't your ordinary Caribbean cruise. This is an Expedition Cruise! So, leave the formal wear at home. Where you're going, trust me, you won't need it!
