We've had a lot going on with our kids and youth, and we're excited to tell you about it below!

Día de Familia

Both Día de los Niños (Children’s Day) and Día de los Padres (Father’s Day) are celebrated in June in Nicaragua. On June 28th One by One combined the two in order to honor families with Día de Familia. It was an excellent crowd of supportive families. The kids put on an amazing show, and sponsored children received their second round of school supplies. God bless you, sponsors!

Young Life partnership (and camp)

Our students at Vida Joven
(Young Life) camp
Fourteen students in our youth program attended a retreat with other Vida Joven members from across the nation. It was a powerful, week-long event, giving young people more practical examples of the Gospel in daily life, and ridiculous amounts of encouragement, laughter and friendships.
For the last couple of years, our youth program has been led by leaders from Nicaragua Young Life (Vida Joven) who are also on One by One's staff. Young Life's vision is similar to our own, seeking to reach the kids that don't feel like they fit into regular church programs, so this partnership has been a great fit, and has connected us with other ministry resources that we weren't connected to before.

Paso a Paso (after-school program)

Later this month we'll start teaching kid in the after-school program about Christians all over the world. The goal is to broaden perspectives and introduce our kids to new foods, new cultures, new languages, and new ways of sharing the name of Jesus.

Vida Joven international

Nicaraguan Independence Day is September 15th, and falls on a Sunday this year. That weekend, youth in our Vida Joven program will be participating in an international youth retreat. We look forward to hearing and seeing how the Lord uses this event to change lives.

Niños de Vida (kids program)

August 24th we will be having some visitors from a ministry in Matagalpa, Nicaragua come and hang out with us and the kids as we offer our usual programs that Saturday. We will also be having a special meeting with parents/guardians on August 18th to keep them both informed and encouraged.

Storytime: They didn't steal his dedication

We have a 17-year-old Nica intern named Fernando. He's been coming to One by One since we launched 10 years ago, and is one of three graduating students who will intern with us while being sponsored to go to college next year!

Fernando is from a region of Managua known for its criminal activity. Last month, he was on his way to work with our Paso a Paso program when he was robbed at gunpoint. They demanded his phone, and he gave it to them. He then continued on his way to work; he arrived on time and taught the classes he was scheduled to teach that day.

We are so thankful for God’s protection! We are also thankful to have a coworker willing to get the job done no matter what circumstances may come. Well done, Fernando! ¡Que Dios te bendiga!
