We also mentioned the SonaTalks event coming up on Saturday 7th September on Refugee Potential. We are part of the afternoon session and will be showing this new film (hot out of the editing suite) of HostNation founder, Anneke Elwes, in conversation with HostNation trustee, Dina Nayeri. Welcome Cinema + Kitchen's next film event is Yesterday Danny Boyle's Beatles tribute film on Wednesday 18th September.. There's a Q&A after with Danny Boyle himself. Welcome Kitchen's chefs will delight your taste buds with food from around the world. Doors open at 6:00pm, food at 6:30, film at 7:30, Q+A at 9:30 at Amnesty International, 25 New Inn Yard, EC2A 3EA.

On the theme of welcome...
West London Welcomes opens its doors again on Thursday 5th September. They are a drop in centre for refugees and asylum seekers near Hammersmith and offer a warm welcome, a hot meal, ESOL classes, IT and much more every thursday from 9.30-4.00pm for FREE. Encourage your friend to drop by and say hello if they're free on Thursdays.
Heart of Herat: Afghani culture through food, storytelling and music
On Friday September 6th at 6.30pm you can travel to Afghanistan with your host Habib Sadat for a wonderful evening that celebrates Afghani culture through the flavours of traditional food, live music, art, and storytelling at St Ethelburgas Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in Bishopsgate (some of you will remember we held our last befrienders' workshop at St Ethelburgas) . Those of you with a friend from Afghanistan might like to introduce them to Habib who is hosting this event. He has taken part in a number of refugee initiatives we've mentioned in previous newsletters. Habib is from Herat, Afghanistan, where he spent 13 years working for the Afghan National Army alongside NATO forces. He left Afghanistan in 2015 and arrived in the UK in via the Calais camp in 2016. He now has refugee status and is currently artist in residence at the Migration Museum’s ‘Room to Breathe‘ and ‘Borderless’ exhibits; a chef and trustee sharing family recipes with Migrateful and, as actor and set designer, was part of PsycheDelight’s Borderline theatre productions. He has just completed The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network‘s (TERN) ICE Academy and is launching a business to share Afghani culture with people through his dual love of food and art.
Talking of a love of food Mo's Eggs is London's first-ever Syrian brunch pop up in Holloway inspired by Mo's upbringing in the spectacular, fertile mountain town of Ain al-Fijah in Syria. Next pop-up is Sunday 15th September. Its become very popular so reserve a table!

And things to do for free in London in September:
1. Totally Thames festival runs from the 1st-30th September and is packed with events, artworks, performances.
2. One of the highlights is the Ship of Tolerance which will be docked outside Tate Modern with art contributed by school children and refugee groups amongst others.
3. If your friend is interested in medicine the Royal College of Physicians Museum is open late on the first thursday of each month (until 8pm)
4. Jom Music Festival 11 is in Brockwell Park on Sunday Sept 15th from 1-5pm - 52 young musical heroes playing for free!
5. Classic Boat Festival with all sorts of vintage boats to clamber on board is in St Katharine's Docks from Fri 6th through to Sunday 8th September
