Evacuations Order in Effect

- ALL tolls have been suspended for evacuations. For the most up-to-date information, travelers can dial 5-1-1 on their phone or visit FL511.com
- When winds reach tropical storm force (39 mph) - 9-1-1 emergency service will cease! YOU WILL BE ON YOUR OWN
- Bridges/causeways will close AFTER the storm and reopen simultaneously after inspections by the Florida Department of Transportation
- Uber has announced free transportation to and from shelters
- The City will continue to send updates via text message, email and Twitter, as information is made available
- Social media updates will be disseminated solely using Twitter at noon today
- You do not need a Twitter account to view the City's tweets, and a Twitter timeline was embedded into the City's website to ensure there are multiple ways to access the up-to-date information

The following residents should START evacuating ASAP:
- Those in mobile homes or manufactured housing
- Those in low-lying, flood-prone areas
- Those with special medical needs such as electrical dependence
- Those who live on the barrier islands - the City of Cape Canaveral is on a barrier island
- Other affected areas include the Kennedy Space Center south to the south beaches, and Merritt Island

| Brevard County opened 13 shelters for residents needing safe harbor from potentially dangerous wind and water conditions anticipated from Hurricane Dorian, which is expected to begin impacting the county some time late Monday night/early Tuesday morning. |
The following shelters are open:
Pet-Friendly:
- Port St. John Community Center, 6650 Corto Road, Port St. John
- Viera Regional Community Center, 2300 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera
- Wickham Park Community Center, 2815 Leisure Way, Melbourne
- Ted Whitlock Community Center at Fred Poppe Regional Park, 1951 Malabar Rd NW, Palm Bay
General Population:
- Apollo Elementary School, 3085 Knox McRae Dr., Titusville
- Walter Butler Community Center at Bernice Jackson Park, 4201 US Highway 1, Cocoa
- Manatee Elementary School, 3425 Viera Blvd., Viera
- Sherwood Elementary School, 2541 Post Road, Melbourne
- Bayside High School, 1901 DeGroodt Rd. S.W. Palm Bay
- South Mainland Community Center, 3700 Allen Ave., Micco
Space Coast Area Transit will provide transportation to three special needs shelters for registered clients.
Although shelters will provide food, residents going to shelters will need to take their own supplies, including bedding, folding chairs or sleeping bags; any needed medications; multiple changes of clothing and sturdy shoes; personal hygiene items; and entertainment items, like games, cards, books, or magazines.
Residents who do not plan to stay in public shelters are encouraged to stay with family or friends on the mainland, and to evacuate tens of miles rather than hundreds of miles, as traffic on highways and interstates is likely to be heavier. A mandatory evacuation order is in place effective at 8 a.m. Monday for residents on the barrier island, low-lying and flood-prone areas, and those living in manufactured or mobile homes.
Mandatory evacuations have begun to allow residents to take shelter by nightfall.

What to Bring to a Shelter
Take your own supplies, some of which may be found in your disaster supply kit:
- Bring pillows, sheets, blankets, portable cot or air mattress, chaise lounge, folding chairs, or sleeping bags.
- Cots or beds are not provided
- If you are on a special diet, bring a supply of nonperishable food that will be sufficient for 3 days per person.
- Multiple changes of clothing and sturdy shoes
- Required medications and medical support equipment:
- Wheelchair/walker, oxygen, dressings, feeding and suction equipment, diapers, etc.
- Personal hygiene items:
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, towels, brush/comb, dentures, glasses, eye drops, diapers, etc.
- Entertainment items:
- Games, cards, books, magazines, etc.

Have a Pet?
Shelters:
- Pet-friendly shelters are designed to accommodate household pets with their human family members. Owners are responsible for the feeding, care, clean-up, and behavior of their pets.
- If you go to a pet-friendly shelter, you will need:
- Current rabies vaccination certificate
- Shot records
- Leash and collar
- County animal license tags
- Crate or cage for each animal
- Pet food
- Cleaning supplies
- Newspaper or pet pad
- Comfort items for your pets
- Medications

It is important to remember not to focus on the exact forecast points within the track as effects from a tropical system can be felt for tens or even hundreds of miles away from its center. Some helpful quick tips to be prepared this hurricane season include:
- Make sure to have enough supplies to last you and your family at least a week (don’t forget pets)
- Have a full tank of gas for your car and generator or charge up your electric vehicle before a storm approaches (www.plugshare.com/location/141764)
- Have a first aid and basic tool kit
- Be up to date on all needed medications
- Consider having a NOAA weather radio and follow the City on social media for updates
- Clear storm drains and debris from your gutters
- NEVER drive through flooded roadways or around barriers
- Have an evacuation plan
