Bounty Box Briefing
Week 14 - Pick-up on September 4

Fall and Winter Shares Available Online NOW! - Andrea Evelsizer

Pictured above is HALF of the WINTER SHARE from last year (one of customers shared her picture with us after she had already split it with her co-worker). So as you can see the Fall and Winter Boxes are meant for stocking up! We will be delivering fresh products once in November and once in December so you can stretch your local season and/or stock up on local products for your Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations.

Products may vary from what is pictured but typically the Fall Share will include some fall greens (lettuce and/or spinach) and possibly some other late fall item depending on the occurrence of frost and availability. Both the Fall and Winter Shares will contain a good supply of storage items such a various colors of potatoes, onions, garlic, carrots and various squash. We try to provide a good diversity products but a lot depends on weather, and harvest, at this time of year so we are still not exactly sure what will be available.

Meet Our Producers - Stories From the Field
Maple Grove Farm - MaryJane Newswanger
Greetings to all from Maple Grove Farm!

I hope you are all enjoying the Bounty Boxes!

Summer sure is flying by, with the shorter days and cooler nights, fall is on the way. Only a few more weeks of the growing season left. August was a busy month for us with some canning and freezing of fresh fruits and vegetables. Our watermelons and cantaloupes are in season now.

We had to come up with a clever idea to keep the raccoons from eating all our sweet corn, so we pitched the tent beside the garden and 2 of the children and the dog slept there for 2 nights and by then the corn was ready for harvest.

We canned green beans, apple sauce, peaches, and pizza sauce from our hot house tomatoes. Then it was time to clean out the hot house, ending another tomato growing season, bitter-sweet feelings! It was our 16th season.

Our children got lots of use out of the backyard swimming pool, with all the warm weather we had. But now school has started and our fall routine has begone.

I`m feeling very thankful for a good growing season, not perfect, but definitely GOOD!
