PEEK OF THE WEEK!
for the week of:
September 8th, 2019
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE

As you may have heard, Cross is conducting the Continuing to Reach – Faith, Family, Future Mortgage Reduction Campaign. The theme is a continuation on our last campaign and describes why we ask for an investment from each household. Reducing and eventually eliminating our mortgage will assist Cross in strengthening members’ faith, growing as a family and ensuring our future. Over the next couple of months, campaign information will be provided in various ways including: bulletin, e-mail, mail, website, social media, gatherings, etc. Please look for the campaign logo (seen here) in communication materials to learn more about the mortgage and how the campaign will enhance Cross’ future.

We ask that you pray for God’s guidance throughout this process as well as the campaign volunteers and entire faith community. This is an important moment in Cross’ history and we thank you for your interest!
Faithful Giving: Time, Talents and Financial Contributions Needed in Our Time of Change

Summer is nearly over. With that, our Congregation now moves into our more active ministries seasons - Interim Pastor Welcome and Support, New Pastor Search, Capital Campaign, Confirmation, Cookie Fair, Sunday School, Advent, Christmas, Adult Education, Lent, Easter, Grace Place Support, Blood Drive Support plus much more.

Our Congregation lives a culture of stepping in and stepping up when the call to action needs us the most. So, please continue to generously share your time and talents where you see a calling to serve. And, continue your gracious financial to support our ministries to the benefit of our Congregation, Community and the World.

    Blessings to you all!

CROSS LUTHERAN CHOIR

Choir rehearsals will begin on Wednesday, September 25th at 7:30, immediately following worship. It is my hope that it will be more convenient for everyone to remain after worship, and have the choir practice immediately following.

I am excited to be your director again, for the about the third time since 1977, when I organized our very 1st choir here at Cross!! Like I have said, I am “kind of like an old tire that you keep retreading!!”

We really need new members, as we have lost several in moves and for health reasons over the last few years. Especially needed are tenors and basses. Without those voices we are very limited in the kind of music we are able to sing. You do not need to have a trained voice, only enjoy singing. Together we can make a” joyful noise!!” I am hoping to do a few anthems with our Praise Band this year also!!!

I believe our choir is vital to the ministry here at Cross, so with commitment of new members we will continue!

Everyone ages Grade 8 through 100 are welcome!  If anyone needs a ride either to or from home to attend, we will see that is available.

I'm looking forward to a great year! If you have questions or concerns, please give me a call  me a call or email.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY

Does the uncertainty and chaos of life keep you up at night?

Is irrational worry your constant companion?

Could you use some calm?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions, you are not alone. According to one research program, anxiety-related issues are the number one mental health problem among women and are second only to alcohol and drug abuse among men. Stress-related ailments cost the nation $300 billion every year in medical bills and lost productivity. And use of sedative drugs like Xanax and Valium have skyrocketed in the last 15 years. Even students are feeling it. One psychologist reports that the average high school kid today has the same level of anxiety as the average psychiatric patient in the early 1950s. Chances are, you or someone you know seriously struggles with anxiety.

Max writes, "The news about our anxiety is enough to make us anxious.” He knows what it feels like to be overcome by the worries and fear of life, which is why he is dedicated to helping millions of readers take back control of their minds and, as a result, their lives.

Anxious for Nothing invites readers to delve into Philippians 4:6-7. After all, it is the most highlighted passage of any book on the planet, according to Amazon:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Max guides readers through this Scripture passage and explains the key concepts of celebrationasking for helpleaving our concerns, and meditating.

Stop letting anxiety rule the day. Join Max, and the women at Cross,  on the journey to true freedom and experience more joy, clarity, physical renewal, and contentment by the power of the Holy Spirit. Anxiety comes with life. But it doesn't have to dominate your life.

Please join us on Saturday, September 21, 2019 as we start this journey together at Cross.  This study is open to Women of all ages.  We meet on Saturday’s at the church from 9-11 am.  If you need childcare so that you can attend, please contact Raena DePerry.  WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

Empower Tanzania
(RE: WELCA $500.00 Donation)

"Once again, we reach out with grateful hearts! We were so thrilled to see your most recent donation.  My goodness! On behalf of all of us at Empower Tanzania, I want to thank you again for your incredible generosity.  As you have witnessed over the last months, we believe in empowering the people we work with in rural Tanzania. Part of what makes our work come alive is our expectation that those we reach contribute something of value towards the projects we do.  Not surprisingly, we've found that our Tanzanian friends are incredibly smart, resourceful, and willing to work hard.  What they lack are means, but thanks to communities like yours, we can help them along and impact incredible change that provides continued growth and opportunity for generations.
We appreciate your continued support of the work being done in rural Tanzania.  We received your donation of $500.00 on 03/18/19.  We are thrilled with our relationship with the good people of Cross Lutheran and are grateful for your generosity."

~ Kindly, Leslie Klipsch, Director of Communications, www.empowertz.org

Herald of Faith - Honduras
(RE: WELCA $1000.00 Donation; Men's Group 350.00 Donation)

Gift personally delivered by Steve Smart

Dear WELCA,
"Thanks so much for your gift to Herald of Faith for Maria to help young women learn to sew.  Your gift will help her get the villages to instruct girls.  It will also help a couple of "graduates" get a new sewing machine.  Your gifts go a long ways to continue helping these young ladies obtain income to support themselves and often a young family too.  Steve Smart shares that your team does a great job of helping many others.  Please keep up the great work.  May you all be blessed as you bless others."
~ Thank again, Dave
