Funnybone & Friends on House Sounds

To celebrate two years of running, we're releasing House Sounds, a compilation of gems by 20 artists we adore and are truly humbled to work with. Some of the tracks you know from albums, some are unreleased, some were made just for this thang.

House Sounds drops digitally September 15th -- the two year anniversary of Funnybone’s first release, View from Inside by Figurine. Til then, you can order off our limited run of tapes and CDs, which ship out September 7th. Lots of love when into making them. They come in a variety of colors you can choose from and feature the wonderful artwork of Keri Halloran. Keri adapted pieces from her series “getting there” to help us crystalize our vision. Hats off to her.

CT Verses did some digging and annotated the track list -- check out what they found here. They also mentioned (correctly) that you can pick up House Sounds a week early at Live from the Lawn ;)

WSAM Radio does the Lord’s work

WSAM Radio Presents: Live From the Lawn is September 7th and, my goodness, is it stacked. Check out the lineup and save the date. It’s all day and super free. Lomelda, Zanders, Glambat, and waveform* on one bill? Fuck yeah.

We'll be having another pop-up record shop there ☀️ Pick up House Sounds, There Is Not a Metaphor That Can Contain, I Feel God in this Chili’s Tonight, posters and stickers, and dig through our collection of new and used records!

Chad Browne-Springer drops "Gloves"

Chad just released his first single since last winter’s collaboration with Pearl Sugar. It’s called “Gloves” and it’s out with OneRPM. It features Greetings’ Dan Carr on drums and producer Rudy.

These three are no strangers to collaborating with each other; Chad’s all over Greetings’ newest singles, Chad and Rudy record together as 1:2. Now, Dan and Rudy two play a huge role on expanding the soundscapes rolling in from last year’s Love’s Letter into Chad’s newest EP, titled Self Care, out this December.

“Gloves” is out now and is featured on House Sounds.

Running from the Dark Gets Tape Pressing

This past May, waveform* was featured alongside Fog Lake, Field Medic, Ricky Eat Acid, Gia Margaret and more on a truly incredible compilation called Running from the Dark. Curated by Dakota Sillyman, the record honors mental health awareness month. Each track was graciously donated by the artists and many include personal explorations of mental health.

Earlier this month, we released it on a run of neon orange tapes, which sold out in under 24 hours. So rad! Just like the digital release, all proceeds will be donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI is amazing; they are the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

We just put up a second pressing of translucent purple tapes, which are already flying. Order one/stream/support NAMI here: mentalhealthcomp.bandcamp.com

Thanks to Stereogum for the writeup!

Watch Eddie Jowels Play “Lemons” at Wherehouse

Last month, we welcomed Eddie Jowels to the Funnybone roster and dropped “Lemons.” It’s a kinda music video / kinda live session that features a massive, masked cast and production team invading Wherehouse. Eddie's collage of aleatoric/found sounds and industrial/electronic elements make for a really gripping listen. Watch it here and check out what CT Verses had to say about it.

We’re stoked to feature a brand new Eddie Jowels track on House Sounds, called “Fill My Heart.”

Bebé Machete Featured on Queer Your Ears

Bebé Machete was recently featured on AutoStraddle’sQueer Your Ears” summer shortlist, alongside Blood Orange, Kim Petras, Dizzy Fae and more. Writer Abeni Jones calls their latest record “high-key inspiring from beginning to end.”

She goes on, “In my mind There Is Not A Metaphor That Can Contain is primarily about healing and liberation — moving beyond just a focus on oppression. Machete goes in on the struggle — and glory — of being a non-binary, queer, Puerto Rican person of color in America. ‘Imperfection is so liberating,’ Machete begins the album’s opener, ‘Mx. Machete’. And on closer ‘Ta Vivo,’ ‘All we got is you, me, one another/ together we will liberate each other.’ Between the two, a fecund well of seemingly limitless creativity.”

Read the full piece here.

We’ve got a small batch of sonic-pink tapes left on Bandcamp for your snails to mail. Keep your eyes out for upcoming announcements.

Watch Glambat Crush "Cole Gate"

We recently came across this stellar performance of Glambat playing “Cole Gate” at Willimantic Records. Just before starting, Emily Rose Alderman jokes, “I’m really bad at this,” and then launches into a flawless play of the track.

“Cole Gate” is off Glambat and Snowpiler’s split EP, I Feel God In This Chili’s Tonight. The two groups perfectly interlace; Snowpiler’s mellow math-rock out of Monroe complements Glambat’s eager New Haven-based gaze-pop stories with rich instrumental breaks.

Few copies of the CD remain online, and they’re really beautiful thanks to Anna Neville’s design work. Order here or pick one up at Redscroll Records!

This September Mix is a Mood

As autumn approaches, it’s time to start transitioning into a new headspace. To us, the end of summer sounds like Mountain Man at the dip of dawn, Honey Oat to jumpstart the morning, a midday drive with Jay Som, evening decompression with Chad and Greetings, a rocky night-walk with Big Thief and John Maus, a solid pre-bed child’s pose to Gia Margaret lol, just suggestions.

If you’re about this even a little, you can hear and follow our September Mix on Spotify. Check out new tracks by Brockhampton, Taylor McFerrin, Toro y Moi, Khraungbin and more.
