New Works in the Student Collection

August 1 - September 6

We hope you've had a great summer! START is excited to let you know about this fall's first exhibition.

-----

Established in 1993, the John P. Anderson Collection of Student Art purchases student works as way to recognize the accomplishments of Wake Forest’s student artists, including those who have achieved Honors in the Studio Art major. The collection consists of works purchased at the annual student exhibition at Charlotte and Phillip Hanes Gallery each spring. Eleven works by eleven artists were accessioned into the collection in 2019. These works span diverse media, including charcoal drawings, sculpture, painting, relief and intaglio prints, photography, and video. Featured artists include: Kayla Amador, Brianna Casini, Rachel Esham, Courtney Geiger, Megan Henderson, Austin Hill, Xiaoqian Jiang, Anna Knightly, Caroline LeDuc, Caitlyn Margol, and Mikey Mattone.

START Gallery is celebrating 10 years of truly innovative student art programming with an exhibition curated by previous START Gallery managers – Caitlin Berry, Marcus Keely, Adelaide Knott, Katie Wolf , Becca Gleichenhaus, Brittany Forniotis, Kylie Kinder, and Jay Buchanan –  featuring works of student (now alum) artists from each respective manager’s tenure. In many cases recent work and projects will be paired with past ones.

Featured artists include: Kayla Amador, Pauline Arroyo, Cami Burruss, Kristi Chan, Marcus Keeley, Adelaide Knott, Caroline LeDuc, Sarah Lewiecki, Lindsay Ortyn, Katherine Robinson, Jon Rowe, Brian Spadafora, Thaddeus Stevens, Kim Voss, Leigh Ann White, and Katie Wolf.

As a major part of this decennial, we invite you to a START@10 conversation with past gallery managers Caitlin Berry, Marcus Keeley, Katie Wolf, and Brittany Forniotis, that will be held in the Wake Downtown  auditorium on September 20th, at 5pm, followed by a reception at START in Reynolda Village, 6:30-8:00pm. Shuttles will be provided (see event schedule below).

In addition to its decade of being a vital part of the student and art experience at Wake Forest University, in the last two years START has also grown, developing a  presence at Wake Downtown (START.dt). This exhibition – for the first time – spans both spaces of START, and START.dt, and both venues will be involved in related event programming. Please visit START Gallery in Reynolda Village, and START.dt in Wake Downtown during the exhibition’s run, from September 16th – October 11th, as we celebrate the 10-year legacy of START Gallery!
