FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Tuesday, September 3 is a partial day for all Grade School and High School students. Students are to arrive at Highlands United Church, 3255 Edgemont Boulevard, North Vancouver at 8:45 am where they will be met by their Class Teacher or Advisor for the Opening Assembly & Rose Ceremony.

Following the Assembly, Grade School parents are to collect their children at 10:15 am.

  • Grades 5-8 will be dismissed from the gymnasium on the first floor
  • Grades 2-4 will be dismissed from upstairs on the 3rd floor
  • Grade 1 students will remain with their parents in the sanctuary
  • High School students will remain until 2:30.

Please refer to your orientation package that was emailed on August 15 for more details about this special event.

STUDENT PHOTOS

School photos are next week. We are working with a new photographer, Haley Lorraine Photography and Design, and we think that you will be pleased with the results. High School photos will be on Tuesday, September 3 after the Rose Ceremony and Grade School photos will be on Friday, September 6 throughout the day. Please note the following recommendations:
  • Portraits will be shot outdoors on a black backdrop with a tight frame.
  • Shots will be candid - and will allow your child to be themselves
  • Please avoid large logos. Choose bright colours (no neon) and clothing that shows off detail in the shoulder area...collared shirts, ties, sweaters, stripes or pretty sleeves. All shots are shoulders up.
  • Please contact the studio directly with questions.

MORNING DROP OFF IN LYNN VALLEY

Parking is limited at the Grade School and Early Childhood Centre. In an attempt to reduce congestion and keep our neighbours happy, please adhere to the following guidelines at drop off in the morning:
  • Before 8:10 am, the parking lot is exclusively reserved for employee parking. It is important that our teachers are able to park and unload their vehicles near to the school so that they can be ready to greet their students when the bell rings at 8:15.
  • After 8:10 am, please use the "kiss and go" lane to drop off children in Grades 2 through 8 who are capable of making their way to their designated door without assistance. There is no parking in the kiss and go & bus lane; do not leave your vehicle. If you need to assist your child to class, please park in the neighbourhood and leave any remaining parking spots for visitors, ECC and Grade 1 parents.
  • Plan to arrive a few minutes early. If there are no parking spaces remaining in the lot, you will need to find a space on the street in the neighbourhood and walk your child to their classroom. Be mindful of driveways and not blocking neighbouring vehicles. Please consider leaving spots open in the parking lot for fellow parents with babies. The fresh air and short walk can be a lovely and invigorating way to begin the day.
  • Please do not park your vehicle in front of the wooden gate which is marked with cones. This is the only access for emergency vehicles to reach the Early Childhood Centre in case of a fire or medical emergency.

IMPORTANT PAPERWORK

Please resolve any outstanding Emergency Contact forms on BigSIS. These important forms must be completed or updated annually, and before your child may attend class on Wednesday, September 4. Parent Login can be found here vws.bigsis.com/portal
