Closely linked to the history of Tuscany, the Frescobaldi family is a prominent noble Florentine family involved in the political, sociological, and economic history of the region since the Middle Ages. The family began making wine in 1308 and, in exchange for paintings traded their wine with Michelangelo. They also supplied Henry V111 with wine and have contracts in their archives signed by him!
They pioneered modern wine production techniques, and in 1855 introduced Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Merlot vines to Tuscany – at that time unknown varieties to the region. Creativity and the pursuit of excellence are the soul of Frescobaldi wines: from Montalcino to Chianti Rufina, from Pomino to the Florence Hills, to the shores of the Tuscan Maremma, these great wines are born from terroirs of excellence and from a passion that has been handed down from father to son for generations.
Today the Frescobaldi family own 11 estates in Italy including 10 in Tuscany and distribute their wines in over 65 countries worldwide.
