Message from DG George Andrako

Greetings Lions,

I have been busy this month.  My first cabinet meeting is behind me.  It sure was a great turn out and thanks to all who attended. Maybe we should eat steak at all cabinet meetings!

I would like to thank PID Cindy Gregg for coming and presenting Bob Rossi with a Presidential Medal; a special award for an exceptional Lion.  Congratulations!

We also passed a motion to send up to four Lions to the Regional Lions Leadership training in March 2020 in Harrisburg.  It will be on a first come basis, so get in touch with me if you are interested.  We are working on building up our leadership within the District.

I also would like to congratulate everyone who stepped up to be on my Cabinet and to help me make our District better.

Our new District Website will be up and running soon.

I have also started my club visitations and would like to thank them for their great hospitality.  Please look at my club visitations and make sure that the dates are alright with your meeting and, if not, please get in touch with me and I will do my best to accommodate you.

We have three Regional meetings scheduled in September.  All lions are encouraged to attend.  There is also a Regional Symposium on Oct. 13th at the Westmoreland Blind Society in Greensburg.

I’m hoping that everyone is having a great summer.  With vacations ending and Labor Day approaching, we need to start with meetings with our Global Team and Membership Chairman to get our District growing to provide more service in our communities.

To those who are still experiencing problems with My Lion, please get a hold of Gloria Schmalz, our GST, for assistance because My Lion isn’t going away.

Congratulations go out to Monongahela Donora Lions Club on getting the first of two benches from the Trex Company.  This is one of the District projects.

I hope to see everyone at the Regional meetings.  GO OUT AND ASK SOMEONE TO BECOME A LION!

Message from VDG Jason Long

Fellow Lions,

I hope you all had a great Summer. I hate to see it go.

As we began emphasizing last year, District 14-M is in need of new leadership in order to ensure the continuation of our great tradition of service. We are especially in need of new Zone Chairpersons, Committee Chairs and members, and future District Governors. We have a proud tradition in District 14-M of District Governors never having to serve more than once. We would like to see this tradition continue.

There are numerous resources available to interested Lions who want to develop the knowledge and skills to enable them to step up to leadership positions. There is the Lions University offered by the USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum. This is a self-paced study program to educate Lions in leadership skills and knowledge of the Organization as well as the resources available for Lion Leaders. Information and enrollment can be found at https://lionsuniversity.org/. Another great resource are the Fall and Spring Leadership Symposia held each year. These are offered by the MD-14 Global Action Team. The upcoming Fall Symposium will be held on October 12 from Noon-5:00 at the Westmoreland County Blind Association in Greensburg. You can register by email to MD-14 GLC PDG Deb Burkholder at kburkholder@dejazzd.com. Finally, there is the Regional Lions Leadership Institute held in Harrisburg. The RLLI is for Lions at the Club level who wish to transition to Club or District Leadership positions. This year’s Institute will be held March 13-15, 2020. There is a $175 fee to attend, but District 14-M will pay this fee for Lions wishing to attend. The deadline for applications to be submitted to the State is February 24, 2020. Let a member of the District Governor’s Team know if you are interested, and we will get you an application.

I hope that you consider stepping up to help us lead this great District. The resources I listed above are available to all Lions who are interested. We are always happy to welcome new faces in the District Leadership. It is an honor to serve as a Lion Leader at any level and be a part of the Leadership of the world’s largest Service Organization. If you have any questions, any member of the District Governor’s Team will be happy to assist you.

Yours in Service,
1st VDG Jason Long
