 A new youth work season with Limerick Youth Service, a visit to the Northside Youth Space and a call for writers! All in this week’s Infolink.
 
New Season in Rathkeale
Rathkeale Youth Space (RYS) will be a hive of activity in the coming weeks with a number of youth groups and the RK Youth Café reopening for the new season.

The youth space has become a firm favourite in Rathkeale since it opened its doors in six years ago and, with a variety of youth groups and a youth café, it continues to grow in popularity.

As a member of a youth group at RYS, young people have the opportunity to take part in a number of activities and programmes from arts and crafts to cooking, music and more. 

The times of the youth groups are:
  • Mondays- Junior Boys (5/6th Class) 3-5pm
  • Tuesdays- First Years 4-6pm
  • Wednesdays- RK Youth Café  4-6pm
  • Thursdays Junior Girls (5/6th Class) 3-5pm

With a pool table, dance studio, activity rooms, information points, outdoor area and the all-important youth café facilities, there’s something for everyone at West Limerick’s premiere youth hub.

A part of Limerick Youth Service, Rathkeale Youth Space is located at Abbey Court, Rathkeale with new members always welcome.

Youth Clubs Ready for New Term
As students across Ireland go back at school, it can only mean one thing- no not traffic jams, packed lunch boxes and bills but…youth club time! 

That’s right, Limerick Youth Service’s youth clubs will be reopening in the coming weeks with young people, parents and volunteers asked to contact their local youth club for more details.
 
Rainbow Group Returns
Limerick’s only LGBTQI+ youth group is back!  The popular group meets every Friday evening at Lava Javas Youth Café, Lr. Glentworth St, Limerick form 5-7pm.

The group is suitable for teenagers (14-18yrs) who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex, while it is also ideal for those who are curious about their sexuality and gender.

The group is a safe space for young people form the LGBTQI+ community to hang out, meet new people and be themselves while also take part in a variety of programmes and activities.

Write for Infolink
Donald Trump, Brexit, education, social media, mental wellbeing, youth clubs, sport, volunteering, politics, culture, migration, young people, youth work- have you an opinion on these or other issues?  Would you like your voice to heard?  Then why not write for Infolink.

Meet LYS
Northside Youth Space
Limerick Youth Service’s Northside Youth Space is the focus of this week’s ‘Meet LYS.’  Located next to Thomond Park, the youth space is home to many youth & community groups including one of Limerick’ oldest youth clubs.  Read on…

Ballynanty Youth Club, formerly known as St. Munchin’s Youth Club, has been a part of the northside community for over four decades and is still going strong. The youth club is open every Monday evening with dozens of young people starting their week at the popular club.

Another popular feature on the northside is Steps Youth Café and which is open every Wednesday and Thursday.

LYS’ Youth & Family Support and Ballynanty Garda Youth Diversion Project are also based at the youth space as is our Be Well Youth Mental Service.

Local community groups and organisations also use the youth space with the Northside Misfits Drama Group regularly performing sell out shows.

LYS Youth Information Service
Reachout.ie
ie.ReachOut.com is an online youth mental health service that provides support and information for young people on issues that may affect their mental wellbeing.

Developed by experts in the mental health field, ReachOut offers online peer support, has a blog section and recently developed an app for smart phones. 

On clicking on ReachOut, a young person can access information and guidelines on issues that may affect their mental wellbeing, such as friendship, studying, socialising, alcohol and bullying.

ReachOut also provides tips on how young people can look after their mental health, such as taking regular exercise and setting goals.

ReachOut was developed in Australia in 1996 in response to a rise in youth suicide and was launched in Ireland in 2009.
