Listed in The Independent's Happy List 2019: Jude Habib, Sound Delivery
|
Founded in 2008 as an antidote to awards that celebrate wealth or celebrity, The Independent's 11th annual Happy List acknowledges people that give rather than take, doing extraordinary things without their own personal gain in mind.
By day, Jude Habib works to create a network of media-confident spokespeople with real experience of pressing social issues facing UK society today - such as homelessness, poverty, addiction, and domestic abuse.
By night Jude opens her home as a Depaul Nightstop host (uk.depaulcharity.org/NightstopUK), offering a safe space for young people who have nowhere else to go.

Key learning through NCVO’s journey of Digital Transformation
NCVO is making some big changes to how they approach digital and technology, so that they can support more people in more organisations.
Megan Griffith-Gray, Head of digital, data and planning, has been sharing their experiences in a series of blog posts. Here she summarises the most important things they’ve learned.
Releasing data or statistics in spreadsheets
Follow these simple guidelines to make your data or statistical releases as useful as possible.
Thanks to David Kane for this tip in response to tweet from Tom Watson from NAVCA: "can someone please just do some basic "how to layout excel spreadsheets that don't make me want to lose the will to live" courses?"
Guidelines created by @robinhouston and @SeanClarke as a counterpoint to the advice of the Government Statistical Service.

Digital Development In Libraries
"...We hear a lot about digital literacy and its importance in our everyday life in today’s modern world. However, just how important are digital skills? Can someone not possessing these skills get by in today’s world? And most importantly; how can libraries facilitate and improve digital development in the modern society?
To find out the answer to these and many other questions, tune in to episode 5 of the Princh Library Lounge, where our host, Marc Lapointe, is joined by Pamela Tulloch, CEO of the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC), and Lindsey Henderson, Head of Programme at SLIC..."

How to give well to charity
By Caroline Fiennes, Moneywise, 13th Aug 2019
"...There are two levels of choice. The first is what cause to give to. This choice may be quite obvious to you if, say, you’ve lost a family member or friend to a particular disease. But either way, it’s worth knowing the numbers...
The charity 80,000 Hours, which gives advice on maximising the impact of your career (the average career involves 80,000 hours of work), recommends choosing causes that have three characteristics.
First, that they are important: the problem is widespread and has serious consequences. On that basis, it is better to support the poorest of the poor, where a little additional resource can improve lives dramatically, than to support people who are doing rather better, where that same additional resource won’t achieve as much..."

Digital Maturity: Tech for Good live podcast
"...On this week’s show we talk about digital maturity in the charity sector. We’ll also find out more about some awesome new Girl Scout badges, such as coding for good and Tom is going to rant about recycling. Our guest this week is Nissa Ramsay. Nissa is a freelance research consultant working in the tech for good space. You can find her on Twitter @NissaRamsay In her own words, it’s pretty niche, but if what you do sounds like what Nissa does - i.e. you work in UK charity sector, freelance, in the tech for good space, but basically you are not a tech person - then join their community. Or send them info on projects you need (paid) help for and want to advertise to freelancers: http://www.thinksocialtech.org/community..."

The Social CEO
How Social Media Can Make You A Stronger Leader (Review)
"While business leaders may feel that it's enough to hire social media managers and amend their marketing strategies, Damian Corbet shows why organizations need to do more to succeed in the Social Age – why CEOs need to 'get social' to survive.
The Social CEO sets out to educate and inspire senior leaders to embrace the Social Age, teaching them the hows and whys of utilising social media in order to make them stronger leaders. Social CEOs can effectively encourage engagement from their employees as well as other stakeholders and customers; they're better able to communicate their organization's objectives and values, gauge the climate in which they operate and improve their brand image".
