TIME TO PAUSE AND REFLECT... AND TO KEEP ON GRINDING!
Just prior to beginning to craft this month's newsletter I took a look at and re-read last month's newsletter. As with all journeys in life, I've experienced some ups and downs over the last couple months. A number of you were so kind to respond to what I had written. Whether it was an offer to work with me or just checking in to say hi and see if things are OK, please know that I appreciate every one of you so much.
On the one hand, August was a month during which I was on holiday with my family in the U.S. For what felt like the first time in ages, it was a true vacation during which I worked fewer hours than I had in a very long while. On the other hand, things kept humming along at Cardplayer Lifestyle, namely thanks to our great contributing writers.
In particular, I'd like to give a HUGE shout out to Geoff Fisk, who has proudly represented Cardplayer Lifestyle with his coverage at the 2019 PokerStars EPT Barcelona festival. We've already published a few of his articles and interviews, and some more great ones are in the pipeline, so be sure to check back in the coming days to read them.
While I didn't pen a single article (I can't ever remember that happening!), I was active behind the scenes, editing and promoting all published content, and working on some deals the fruits of which will hopefully materialize in the coming months.
Other than that, summer's now in the rear-view window and I'm fully recharged to get going with some new poker writing once again. I've got a lot of thoughts to share that I've kind of been bottling up, so I plan to publish them in the coming weeks and hopefully you'll find them enjoyable.
Thanks, as always, for coming along for the ride. As we approach our 10th anniversary, the future looks bright and promising.
Robbie
EXCLUSIVE DEAL!
Did you know that Ace King should be one of your most profitable starting hands? Yet, most players loathe this hand due to how often it misses the flop and how often they seem to get sucked out on the times that it does hit. But a few simple strategic tweaks can turn things around and prepare you for playing AK better both pre-flop and post-flop. The good news is that one of poker's top strategy authors has written the official book on Ace King to answer everything from "when should I 4-bet AK pre-flop?" to "should I continue barreling my gutshots?" to "is a third bet really going to generate value here?"
As a special deal for newsletter subscribers, you can use the code ROBBIE to save $15 on this product. I don't know exactly how long this code is going to work, so grab your copy now and start optimizing your play with AK!

Thanks so much once again to the iNinja Poker Tour for sponsoring this newsletter. Tour founder Chris Wallace produced a real gem for us this month entitled A Quick and Dirty Guide To Beating Low Stakes Tournaments. I'm sure you'll find his advice valuable, so be sure to check it out.
🎙️ PODCAST UPDATES 🎙️
In case you may have missed it, my final episode as host of the Red Chip Poker Podcast was published on August 6th. I was joined by James "SplitSuit" Sweeney and Zac Shaw to reminisce about our respective tenures and gave listeners a special behind-the-scenes look at how the show works, revealing all the numbers as well as our picks for our favorite shows, and more.
I also made an appearance, together with Chad Holloway, on a recent episode of the Bernard Lee Poker Show. In what's becoming an annual tradition, the three of us recapped our respective highlights of the World Series of Poker and had a spirited discussion about some of the WSOP's most memorable and enduring moments. Be sure to have a listen!

To switch things up a little, below I've included a selection of articles from Augusts past that remain great reads even today. I hope you enjoy them; if you do, please share your favorites on social media to help spread the word!
Your feedback, constructive or otherwise, is of course welcome.

More than just a review of two books written by George "the Engineer" Epstein, namely "Hold'em or Fold'em?" and "The Art of Bluffing", this post tells the story of how to engineer success at the poker tables, as well as away from them.
Here's hoping you enjoy the read as much as I enjoyed writing it up.
