Reading between the wines : Book Club kits
Dark emu by Bruce Pascoe

Brand new addition to the Book Club Kit collection!

Dark Emu puts forward an argument for a reconsideration of the hunter-gatherer tag for pre-colonial Aboriginal Australians. The evidence insists that Aboriginal people right across the continent were using domesticated plants, sowing, harvesting, irrigating and storing – behaviours inconsistent with the hunter-gatherer tag. Gerritsen and Gammage in their latest books support this premise but Pascoe takes this further and challenges the hunter-gatherer tag as a convenient lie. Almost all the evidence comes from the records and diaries of the Australian explorers, impeccable sources.

Archival Revival : discovering our local history
Finding true connections

Our individual memories define us. Our tribal memories unite us. If these are missing, parts of us are missing too. The Emotional Inheritance division of Exisle Publishing works with a global team of psychologists, writers and historians to provide a premium interview and story production service, to capture the life stories of elderly family members. This approach is in line with emerging social trends to once again honour and value our ancestors, and is intended to help these generations capture their stories so that they can leave a lasting, meaningful legacy. Now, Finding True Connections clearly and simply sets out the steps necessary for you to undertake this process yourself, without an external interviewer. Designed as a series of double-page spreads, on the left-hand page is a prompt question while, on the facing page, notes provide context to the question and tips and guidance for how to gain the most meaningful answers.

Local Studies is open 2.00pm-4.00pm Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, upstairs in the Old Town Hall, in front of Bowral Library. See what we have in the collection here.

Children's Book Week 2019

During the past month, Wingecarribee Public Libraries have been extremely busy with over 70 school class visits from local primary schools and preschools. It’s lovely to see many families returning after school with their families.

Children spent their time learning about the Library service and what great things that are on offer. During their visit, children were lucky enough to enjoy reading a number of shortlisted titles for 2019.

Wingecarribee Public Libraries hold a copy of all shortlisted titles which you can find here: https://www.cbca.org.au/shortlist-2019
