Fearrington Farmers' Market
Tuesdays, 4 - 6 pm
April through November

Category 5, yikes!

I really hope Hurricane Dorian isn't a sign of things to come for the rest of this season -- we've certainly seen our fair share of extreme weather events in the past few years.  Extreme weather is rough on just about everyone, but that's especially true for farmers.  Just a day or two of high wind, heavy rain, or unseasonably hot or cold temperatures can be enough to wipe out an entire crop.  With North Carolina's unpredictable weather, it's a wonder we're able to bring food to market at all!

We're lucky to have so many wonderful farmers and vendors at the Fearrington Farmers' Market, working hard to bring you the best they can produce, week after week.  I'm especially grateful to the other farmers who can pick up my slack when my tomato crop fails, or give me advice on growing something I've never tried before.  Supporting each other and sharing knowledge is essential to keeping our local farming community resilient to whatever Mother Nature throws at us.

Happy September, and thank you for coming out to support us every week!

Kristen

Our awesome crew -- Taij, Victoria and Caitlyn -- will be back at market this week with lots of arugula, basil, sweet and spicy peppers and beautiful eggplants.   And there will be more cured butternut squash.  The flower department will have a bucket of zinnias along with mixed bouquets for your table.  And lots of eggs from Michael's pastured hens.

Sweet Flowers and Fruits

This week at market we'll have more eggplant and peppers.  The beautiful light purple Dancer, the traditional Black Beauty and Fairy Tale eggplant along with sweet red and yellow peppers and Giant Marconi peppers, great for cooking with.  Oh, and jalapeños, also if you need to make poppers to watch football or ride out a hurricane.  Okra continues to come in, so we'll have that as well as red onions, garlic and elephant garlic.  We should have a few pawpaws for you, too!  In the flower department, there will be mixed bouquets and bunches of celosia and zinnia.  See you there!
