THIS & THAT IN & AROUND OLL

NEW MEMBER to the OLL BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Ron Grant

At the July meeting it was decided to add a director-at-large board member to fill the spot temporarily vacant owing to Dottie Bellinger stepping into the VP slot. The board approved asking Ron Grant to join. Ron agreed and will serve until the next AGAM meeting. Ron is a very active member of the Events Committee. Many of you have seen him in charge of AV as well as Manager responsibilities for numerous presentations at the library. He is a welcome addition to the board.

Please scroll down to see this new addition.

CREATE & SHARE / CREA & COMPARTIR

COMI WATER PROJECT MEETS ITS GOAL
We are so appreciative of the support of everyone who helped us surpass our fundraising goal for the COMI water project. Looking forward to a working system very soon! We are humbled by the generosity of your response. Your contributions will be acknowledged, if they haven't already. A most sincere thank you to all whose contributions have made this transformative change to a worthy cause.

And from an appreciative contributor...
"Thanks for the eblast article on COMI. We wouldn´t have known about them otherwise. We´ve been looking for ways to support migrants here in Oaxaca so we were able to make a sizable donation to them just now." — Anonymous member

SEEKING LEADERSHIP TEAM
for SEMI-ANNUAL BAZARS

We are forming a team of two to three people to organize OLL's upcoming semi-annual bazars. We thank our past teams who have done fabulous work raising much needed funds for the library. They have put together detailed notes, pricing guidelines, and volunteer lists to facilitate the next team's work.
If you're interested in being a team leader or volunteer, PLEASE CONTACT CATHY PEKEL, OLL's Volunteer Coordinator.

TO LEARN WHAT'S HAPPENING ALL OVER OAXACA
GO TO:

COMI (Centro de Orientacion de Migrantes en Oaxaca)
COMI (Centro de Orientacion de Migrantes en Oaxaca) began in 2002 as a collaboration between Father Fernando Cruz and two Maryknoll lay missionaries. They saw the need to provide humanitarian support and solidarity to migrants coming from destabilized Central American countries. In 2003 the Good Samaritan Project was adopted by the Archdiocese of Oaxaca (COMI is now a registered Mexican non-profit). The project has evolved from helping local families find lost or deceased migrant relatives to providing a daytime respite and meal to the now full-service shelter that is based at the SW end of Centro Oaxaca (near Abastos and the Central bus station).

Many people have visited COMI to work on various volunteer projects including art and reading with migrant children, mural painting, English classes and a successful upgrade to the technical systems COMI uses for outreach and communication. The recent water project has met its goal. New projects are continually in the planning stages. There's always an opportunity to help.
