Electronic Eye

Sydney Video Makers club newsletter

Dear <<First Name>>, we are so glad that you are reading this :)
LINK to see club calendar.
The Electronic Eye, or EE for short, is the newsletter for the Sydney Video Makers (a.k.a. SVM) Club. You can peruse past edition of the newsletter on our website. We use this newsletter to advise of our upcoming club meetings and provide pertinent news items from our members. We do not wish to be a "me too" video magazine as there are plenty of those already on the web.

The EE is open to both financial members and non-members who are interested. If you wish, you can easily unsubscribe at anytime and if you got this forwarded to you, and want to subscribe you can do so via our club website. Also see our Facebook page and our Meetup Group.

Focus on Editing

The current competition is Editing a Shared shoot, called Three Wishes.
Handing in date has been extended to 17 September.

So there is still time to do this even if you hadn't started yet! But are you having some difficulties in organising the source files, or synchronising sound, or with the special effects? Tomorrow (Wednesday 28 Aug), we will be discussing problems and offering solutions, so come along with your questions!

If you don't already have the media source files, bring along a storage device (USB hard disk, or SD card) with at least 50GB of free space and we will provide you the files at the club meeting.

Editing Competition

Get the shared footage on Wednesday club night. Bring your media (SD card, portable HDD/SSD or USB flash memory with 50GB of free space)

Titled "Three Wishes" this is Cinderella, Part II - a short 2 page script, which was shot last week by people from most of the teams working together. The competition is for EDITING only of the footage, so need to collect the material either on Club Night, or contact the President.

Entry rules for competition:
  1. Maximum 1 entry per Team
  2. Maximum 1 entry per an individual in any team (or if not in a team), but must be significantly different, so you can't simply just change the sound, for instance. It needs to be a different edit.
Entry dates have been extended to allow more time for team collaboration:
  1. Entries close 17 September
  2. Results on 28 August club night

AGM next Month

In 1 month time we have our club AGM as usual. We would like to invite financial members to consider joining the Committee. This is your opportunity to active get involved in shaping the club's future and to "give back" a little of your time to make the club continue operating. Email the President if you would like to be considered.

Please refer to the club's website for the Agenda.

Input caption text here. Use the block's Settings tab to change the caption position and set other styles.
Can't afford a 6k system? You are not alone. My recommendation is to get a Sony A7 or Fujifilm X-T3 (preferred) or a GH5(s) set of kit. However it does make interesting reading. Enjoy the above video...

Now for some useful tutorial....

Sound Advice for PP

Corny title, I know - for some tips for Sound Post Production (editing). Basically just like images, you need to edit the sound recording, if you want to get the best results. I use Final Cut Pro X and rely on some great Audio Plugins to allow me to do both sound and video editing, without needing to go to another program. Let's see what I use...
