Hello Broadcast Amsterdam friends

Where do I start? Firstly, I'm very sorry for not writing earlier, I know you're all pretty interested in the latest news from Broadcast Amsterdam (our open rate for the emails we send are very encouraging), so I promise to do better on that front. But for now, there's loads to tell you! I'll keep this focused on the four new radio shows we've just launched.

Amsterdam Kitchen | LIVE | Saturdays 10:00-12:00
Amsterdam Kitchen
I've given up my Friday show, Cathy's Lunch LIVE (making way for a fantastic new show, see below), and together with Geli Carney of @damkitchens, we've developed a 2-hour local food show.
Saturday mornings in Amsterdam will never be the same. From 24 August 2019, Amsterdam Kitchen live radio show will broadcast weekly from 10:00-12:00 bringing you local food stories, live guests, restaurant, bar and café reviews and great music to go with your weekend brunchtime. The pilot show featured an interview with José Mendoza, co-owner of Cafe Capricho, where we quizzed him on their approach to setting up a neighbourhood restaurant in Amsterdam – without going bust. We shared reviews of two Amsterdam restaurants, Plantage and Breda (quite an epic story for that one, including spilled wine, several mini carrots, “morning urine” and something called a pre-dessert – check out the pics in the podcast notes!). Our ‘In Season’ segment discussed the oysters of Zeeland and the ‘Winkelwagon’ segment gave listeners the heads up on a current deal on organic blueberrys at the Ekoplaza. We had a special feature on the new Amsterdam Cooking Club meetups, and a very enthusiastic report on Bossche bollen cream cakes from Joe Montagna of Fat Kids Corner. Geli picked out a great rosé for our ‘Drinkables’ spot. We didn’t even get time for the ‘Eat My Dutch’ and ‘Five food faves’ features we prepared so we’ll introduce them in next week’s show. Week-to-week, the radio version (including all the music tracks) is available on demand in the Podcasts section of our website pretty soon after the show (and in our Mixcloud feed), with a talk-only podcast version available on all the usual podcast places slightly later in the week. Get in touch with me at info@broadcastamsterdam.nl if you have a good local food story to share on the radio!

Music the the Max | LIVE | Fridays 13:00-14:00
MusicSharing music news, Amsterdam gig news and great, great music. Newcomer, Ben Maxwell already has one pilot of his Music to the Max show in the bag (see here) and we're really looking forward to hearing more. In his pilot episode last week, Ben shared his concept for the show and then went on to share a local story on the sold out Inhaler show and explained the link with U2’s Bono, with tracks from Disclosure, Khalid, a new track from Taylor Swift, and lots more.

Amsterdam Families | Saturdays 09:00-10:00

Anna Meijer and Lana Huf-Germain, from the new Amsterdam Families platform are now broadcasting weekly on Saturday mornings from 09:00-10:00 on
Broadcast Amsterdam radio, perfect for families on those lazy Saturday mornings. With a mix of music and local events, and interviews on family life in Amsterdam and around, Amsterdam Families radio show is a fun new show, suitable for kids (obvs)  and we can't wait to hear more from Anna and Lana. Listen back to the pilot edition, where they talk about finding childcare, nannies, and lots more, here

Your Stories of Health | Sundays 11:00-11:30
Bringing you music and meaning; a local personal health story + soundtrack. We all face challenges in our life and this can impact our health. Ruth Wilson, producer and presenter will be asking Amsterdammers how life’s challenges have impacted their health and what we are doing to better understand what it means to be healthy today. Each week Ruth will be presenting a new unique story accompanied by a personal soundtrack. Shared experiences – thoughtful and enriching, it's a collaboration between Person Before Patient and Broadcast Amsterdam. The first episode with Ruth was a little tearful but ultimately uplifting, with some brilliant tracks by Gil Scott Heron, James Taylor and more. 🎧 Finally, don't forget our other radio shows, including BRAM Breakfast, Matt & Maxine, The Happy Hour, Eva Women Radio and The Ass (aka Amsterdam Sports Show). We now have a live show every day of the week by the way! But remember, if you miss any of the radio shows, just listen back on our website, see Podcasts.

Happy listening everybody!

xxx from Cathy
