Principal’s Welcome

Dear Banford Families,
We really enjoyed coming out to the community and getting a chance to connect with some of our families over the course of the summer. As you can see in our logo, it means a lot to be able to say, “We are Banford!” To us, it means that our school aspires to be a place where each of us, whether student, parent, guardian or staff, are working together to be a community of independent, lifelong learners. On behalf of our faculty and staff I want you to know how excited we are to continue this good work together during the upcoming school year!

Bringing Banford to the Community

Over the course of the summer, several members of the Banford Faculty have had the pleasure of meeting our families in the community.  On Tuesday, August 20, 2019, we were thrilled to have 80-100 grandparents, parents and children join us for a day at Taylor Park.  Thanks to all who joined us, and to those that participated in making this possible!

 
Banford Parent Organization (BPO):

We invite our Banford parents and care-givers to be looking out for opportunities to participate in the Positivity Project and classroom activities, as well as community events sponsored by the BPO.  If you wish to be a part of making BPO events happen, please email them at bpo@ccsdk12.org or talk with any BPO member.  New members and helpers are always welcome!

Morning Drop-off Routine:

Our morning drop-off routine is designed to promote a secure, yet welcoming start to the day. Key points about morning drop off are as follows:
1. Students may arrive at Banford between 7:30 and 8 o’clock, when their day begins. There is no supervision before 7:30 and the doors will be locked.
2. Students arriving between 7:30 and 7:55 may enter from the Banford loop on the playground side of the building. Please pull forward in the loop to help the traffic flow through as efficiently as possible.
3. After 7:50, the buses leave the loop, and students can be dropped off at the main Banford entrance by the bus loop. Please note that these are the only accessible entrances to Banford in the morning.
4. Pre-K students should arrive between 7:50 and 8 o’clock at the main Banford entrance by the bus loop after the buses have left. One of the Pre-K teachers will meet them at the main Banford entrance.
5. Students will be met by greeters at the entrance and escorted to their classes and morning locations as necessary.  Only Banford students and Banford staff will be allowed in the Banford hallways during arrival, and only families with Banford children should drop older siblings off at the Banford entrance. If you need to communicate with the teacher, send a note, email the teacher, or call the office to set up a separate time to meet. As the morning begins, teachers need to be available to devote their attention to their students to ensure a smooth start.
 

PLEASE NOTE: There are no left turns out of the Banford Loop, the Bus Loop, or Farmer Street between 7:30 and 8:00
 

Dismissal Procedures:

To ensure student safety, busing arrangements for students must be as consistent as possible on a daily Monday through Friday basis.  The District recognizes, however, that there may be some circumstances of an urgent nature which necessitate a change in the normal busing arrangement for a student.  In these exceptional circumstances, the school office must receive prior written notification of a requested changes indicating the date, time, and location change.  This written notice must be provided no later than 8:00 am the morning of the requested change.  Such requests may accompany the child to school. 

After 8:00 am, the written emergency requests for busing changes must be presented in person by the parent/guardian or person previously authorized as an emergency contact for the child.  Telephone calls, emails, voicemails or faxes will NOT be accepted to change a child's busing arrangements.

Dismissal for those walking or being picked up is at 2:20pm.   Student pick-up happens in the Banford Cafeteria (entrance through the District Office hallway).
 

 

Banford Communication:

At Banford, we are working hard to promote the safety, well-being and happiness of all our students. Mutual efforts to communicate are essential to these efforts! At the school level, we use OneCallNow texting and email to keep you informed about events, changes and our ongoing efforts, and you can always call the office with any questions.
 
All of our teachers have email, and this is often the easiest way to maintain contact as we all collaborate to meet the needs of the children.  In addition, many teachers will have other means of communication that they will share with you at the classroom level, such as Class Dojo and Remind. 
 
Finally, please like our official Banford Elementary School Facebook, which regularly posts pictures and captions about events and experiences here at the school.  Several of our teachers and the Banford Parents Organization (BPO) have Facebook pages that are linked to our Banford page as well.

The Positivity Project Continues:

 
Banford is entering year three of the Positivity Project.  This Project is about helping students understand and use qualities that will help them find happiness and success.  It is based on “positive psychology,” and can be summed up with this hashtag: #OtherPeopleMatter.
 
Each of us has positive character traits that we can use to help become part of a nurturing community. We invite our parents and community members to find out their own character strengths using this survey: http://www.viacharacter.org/www/Character-Strengths-Survey.
