If you have not yet met Dr. El-Turkmani,  below is an introduction:

Dr. Leslie El-Turkmani was always told by family and friends that she has a nurturing “bedside manner” with a deep empathy for other people’s pain, and a natural “healing touch” when caring for loved ones over the years.

As a child, she was eager to try different things. She danced ballet, tap and jazz from the age of 4 years old until she was 20. After dance classes ended, she took naturally to yoga, particularly “Vinyasa.” She played softball, joined the diving team, and played piano, violin and clarinet in both concert and marching bands, from grade 5 until high school graduation. She currently continues her love for yoga, practices aerial arts, specifically the “hoop” and the “silks”, and enjoys working out at the gym.

Dr. El-Turkmani (or Dr. El) was first introduced to chiropractic at the age of 19 when she began working as a chiropractic assistant. Over the course of 4 years she worked for 2 different chiropractors, and fell in love with the profession. “It was my very first job. I remember receiving my first adjustment, I was nervous like most people are, but it felt amazing during, and after, and I never forgot it.”

In that time Dr. El began learning all she could about the profession, excited and curious about the science and art of chiropractic medicine. She learned how therapeutic modalities were applied to patients, such as electronic stimulation, heat, and soft tissue techniques. She helped scan people’s feet for orthotics, watched the chiropractors adjust, and listened to the doctors explain the power of proper nutrition and regular exercise to the patients. She began understanding the goals of treatment, and the benefits. “Watching patients crawl into the office scared and in pain, and literally walk out, never stopped amazing me.”

Dr. El graduated the Doctor of Chiropractic program at NYCC in 2017 after completing her BA degree from SUNY Empire State College. She then went on to complete 5 national board exams, and is now licensed to practice chiropractic in the states of NY and MA. She is a certified ART provider, and also holds certifications in Activator Technique and Nimmo soft tissue therapy.

Dr. El is eager to apply her passion and experience to Performance Health Center. “Understanding wellness is a powerful tool. There is a profound sense of pride that people experience when able to take care of themselves and more importantly, their loved ones. I just want to help people live pain-free.” She goes on to state “In my family, on both sides, live into our 90’s. I grew up learning how to take care of myself from people that lived through the Great Depression, World War II and the Vietnam War. They taught me a healthy diet and regular exercise are mandatory.”

“The doctor of the future will give NO medicine, but will INSTRUCT his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and PREVENTION of disease.”

-Thomas Edison
