Billy Graham: On Labor Day, Look at Your Work From God's Perspective
The Rev. Billy Graham believed that the upcoming Labor Day holiday should be a time when Americans not only celebrate their work, but see that work from God's perspective.
In an advice column the notable evangelist was asked a question regarding the nature of their job, specifically their issue with the job being boring.
"After college, I ended up taking what I thought was a temporary job, and five years later I'm still in it. Why hasn't God given me something exciting, instead of a job I don't really care about?" inquired the person.
Graham responded that Christians should view the Labor Day holiday as being a time to see what their occupations are from the perspective of God.
"Labor Day, I believe, should also be a time when we ask God to help us see our work from His point of view. Let's be honest; work isn't always exciting, and when we focus only on its problems or spend our time wishing we were doing something else, we'll probably end up resentful, angry or bored," wrote Graham.
"But when we begin to see our work from God's point of view, our attitude will be much different. We'll begin to realize that God gave our work to us, and because of this it has dignity and importance."
Graham went on to point out that even notable figures from the Bible spent much of their lives working occupations that seemed mundane.
"For most of His life, Jesus worked with His hands as a carpenter; the Apostle Paul was a tentmaker," continued Graham.
"From the very beginning of the human race, even before sin entered the world, the Bible says, 'The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it,' (Genesis 2:15)."
California Admission Day is September 9th!
We are so blessed to live in this is beautiful state where we don’t have to shovel the snow off our driveways.  Hurricanes, tsunamis and tornadoes are not a constant worry.
This classic Mediterranean climate is why many of us moved here in the first place. Balmy breezes, ocean vistas, towering mountains and desert oasis still entice people from all over the world to visit and stay here.
Here’s a few historical notes that you not know or have forgotten:
California was admitted to the union on September 9, 1850 as a free non-slavery state after quite a few heated debates.  There were no slaves here and the residents didn’t want to start on that course either.
California was the thirty-first state in the union.  It was ceded to the United States from Mexico at the end of the Mexican/American War of 1848, by means of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
California became a State right away and was never required to spend a period as a territory.
Did you know that one part of the treaty included the agreement that California would always be a bi-lingual state where the residents would speak both Spanish and English?
Did you know that there were many disputes over where the final border between the United States / Mexican?  At one point the United States considered taking all of Mexico as part of the states, but President Polk campaigned for a free Mexico.

A Little Humor:
A man buys a parrot and brings him home. But the parrot starts insulting him and gets really nasty, so the man picks up the parrot and tosses him into the freezer to teach him a lesson. He hears the bird squawking for a few minutes, but all of a sudden the parrot is quiet. The man opens the freezer door, the parrot walks out, looks up at him and says, "I apologize for offending you, and I humbly ask your forgiveness."
The man says, "Well, thank you. I forgive you."
The parrot then says, "If you don't mind my asking, what did the chicken do?"

The church held a "Marriage Seminar" and the Priest asked Luigi, as his 50th wedding anniversary approached, to share some insight into how he managed to stay married to the same woman all these years. Luigi replied to his audience, "Well, I tried to treat her well and spend money on her. But the best thing I did was take her to Italy for our 20th anniversary."
The Priest said "Luigi, you are an inspiration to all husbands here today. Please tell the audience what you plan for your wife for your 50th anniversary." Luigi proudly replied "I'm gonna go and get her."
