Celebrate MFG Day in Idaho with Made Here! 2019
October 15 (VIP Event) & 16 (Expo/Job Fair) at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa

Calling ALL Manufacturers and Friends of Manufacturing

Download an Event Flyer

The Southwest Idaho Manufacturers' Alliance (SWIMA)  is hosting its 5th annual “Made Here!” Expo and Job Fair at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa. There will be a VIP event the evening of October 15 featuring a keynote address by Brian Fretwell; a speaker, consultant and founder of Why We Win. Brian's keynote will focus on "Building Momentum: What the successful industrial companies in the world are doing to get the most out of their people." The fun continues with a Manufacturing Expo/Job Fair on Wednesday, October 16 from 9 am - 2 pm.

Made Here! is a free event that is open to manufacturing enthusiasts of all ages. The event is part of the National MFG Day that kicks off annually on the first Friday of October. MFG Day puts focus on the reality of modern manufacturing careers by encouraging thousands of companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers and community leaders. The reality is that there is something for everyone in today's manufacturing industry. In addition to careers on the plant floor, manufacturers need engineers, programmers, writers, graphic designers, HR professionals, business managers and more.
Idaho's Made Here! event will feature some really cool products and the companies that make them right here in our state. You'll see advanced 3D printers, drones, robots, consumer products, and mountains of food from some of Idaho's best-known producers.
Nearly 1,000 students of all ages (with teachers & parents) attended the 2018 event and we expect at least that many in 2019. You can register your student group here and even apply for a bus scholarship to help defray the cost of getting students to the event.

Mark Your Calendar to Attend or Register to Exhibit

For Idaho manufacturers, Made Here! is an opportunity to publicly display the variety of products created, the career opportunities available, and the economic importance of manufacturing in Idaho.
If you are interested in exhibiting, REGISTER NOW. You don't have to have all of your booth details ironed out. SWIMA is currently marketing this event and wants to include YOUR company!

Ch Ch Ch Changes.....

It has been a busy summer of change at TechHelp. Just as Catherine Cantley and Jolene Cram were settling into their positions in the Food Manufacturing space, TechHelp welcomed Janna Hamlett to the Food Team. Janna brings a wealth of qualifications, expertise, and experience to her position as a Food Processing Specialist at TechHelp and the UI/WSU School of Food Science. Janna will help companies address a variety of food processing and food safety issues. She will work out of an office on the Campus of the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, where she has been an Assistant Professor for Food Science/Quality Assurance.

"I would like to thank UI and TechHelp for the warm welcome I have received. I am excited about joining the UI Extension, UI School of Food Science, and TechHelp. I look forward to working with the team at Tech Help to support the local Food Manufacturing Industry."
Janna Hamlett, Food Processing Specialist - TechHelp, University of Idaho Extension & School of Food Science

In her previous work as an independent Food Safety and Production Consultant, Janna helped local companies develop food safety policies and programs.  She also gained valuable industry experience during 10 years at Glanbia Foods in the Magic Valley. Janna was the Production Manager of Glanbia’s cheese plant in Gooding and Quality Assurance Manager of the company’s Gooding and Twin Falls plants.

Janna jumped right in at TechHelp when she joined Catherine Cantley (above left) to host the Idaho Food Safety Cooperative Workshop Series at Boise State.

"As a six sigma blackbelt, a manufacturing and production leader, and a food safety expert- Janna is an incredible asset to Idaho manufacturers.  She's a fantastic educator, a partner for professional development, and genuinely cares about giving you real, simple, sophisticated solutions to your problems.  Together we are building a program that we are excited to share with you over the coming year."

And More Changes.....

Just as TechHelp was getting ready to add a new Specialist to the New Product Development (NPD) Team at Boise State, veteran NPD artist and prototype guru, Blaise Lawless (right), announced he would be joining Boise based toymaker, Lovevery. Blaise changed the nature of the NPD Lab in 2007 when he brought his artistic eye and skills to NPD's Team of Mechanical Engineers. Over the years, Blaise worked with the TechHelp Team and over 20 NPD student employees on over 500 client projects. The TechHelp team is happy to see Blaise join an exciting Idaho startup that will leverage his lifelong artistic pursuits and the industrial design skills he honed during 11 years in the NPD Lab. We will miss Blaise, but are thrilled that he will stay in Boise and, possibly, return to the Lab as a client.

Above, current NPD Team Members (L-R) - Jordan Lundgren, Dylan Rolleigh, and Caleb Picklesimer - show the "Evolution of a Bike Part" Plaque they made for Lawless, a cycling enthusiast. The Plaque was composed of real prototype parts that were used in the development of a bicycle brake.

And One More Ch Ch Ch Change .....

As the TechHelp team mourned the departure of Blaise Lawless, we celebrated the return of NPD Lab Alumni, Grey Beaudry, who rolled back into the lab in August of 2019 (On a WOWGO Board instead of his trusty old Segway) to take on the role of Lab Manager. Grey was a multi-talented performer from 2012-2014 when he worked at the NPD Lab as a Boise Grey Beaudry Rolls Back to TechHelpState Mechanical Engineering student employee. Grey returns to TechHelp as a seasoned industry veteran, with deeper knowledge and more wide-ranging capabilities, that he will put to work for Idaho companies. Thankfully, Grey possesses keen artistic talents that will help soften the loss of Lawless.

"I am excited to be back at TechHelp where I can guide students and clients through mentorship and collaborative experiences to ensure the success of both the individual and the organization."
Grey Beaudry, NPD Lab Manager

"Grey is a focused, highly motivated and passionate mechanical engineer, with seven years of experience managing complex projects. He is adept at collaborating with cross-functional teams to create innovative products across a variety of industries. Grey has experience mentoring employees with a hands-on approach to design, development, and troubleshooting. And he specializes in all developmental phases, including concept generation, rapid prototyping, mechanical design, marketing materials, and manufacturing assistance.  We are pleased that he is back on the TechHelp team!"  -
Steve Hatten, Executive Director, TechHelp

TechHelp is excited that Beaudry back on the team and is looking forward to working with him to take the NPD Lab to new heights.
