Brunswick community meeting:
Making walking safer

6.30-8.30 pm Tuesday 17 September 2019

Did you know that Moreland is Melbourne's second deadliest area for pedestrians?

Brunswick Residents Network is hosting a community meeting to present the evidence and discuss causes, solutions and possible community action.

We'll have expert and community speakers from 7.00pm. We'll discuss causes and solutions, and hear from leaders of two successful community campaigns in our local community. There will be time for discussion and a chance to record your hot spots for improvement and action.

SPEAKERS

Andrea Bunting: Introduction –
the statistics

Tim Lecky(traffic planner) and Murray West (urban strategist and traffic engineer). Tim and Murray work with MCCagney, who wrote City of Melbourne's updated Transport Strategy in 2018. Their strategy background paper includes interesting recommendations for pedestrian safety and convenience in the CBD and inner suburban areas covered by the City of Melbourne.

Jane Holroyd: Local pedestrian and public transport advocate

Helen McDonald: The Merri Bridge Group successfully campaigned for a foot and bike bridge to link Brunswick and Northcote behind Ceres. They persuaded two Councils – Darebin and Moreland – to fund the project which will be built this financial year. Most importantly, this will allow kids from Northcote to safely cross the creek to their nearest school, Brunswick East Primary rather than braving Arthurton Road.

Helen Kratzmann: The group Pedestrian Safety for Nicholson Street Coburg got new walking lights installed in Nicholson Street Coburg, linking apartments and an IGA on one side with a mosque and houses on the other.

SCHEDULE
Speakers start at 7.00 pm; come from 6.30 pm (or stay after 8.30) to record local danger spots and sites for improvement with our Brunswick MP Tim Read.
And have a cuppa.

In particular we have some new mini-flyers and business cards so if you'd like some to share with your neighbours, let us know and we'll drop them of, or pick some up at our 17 September meeting.
