Encouraging Self-expression in Your Chinese Language Classroom

We are pleased to introduce the latest in our TEQ series, featuring Yuan Zhao's 11th-grade class at Mamaroneck High School in New York. "Selecting Clothes" shows students comparing and discussing their criteria for selecting clothing from an online catalog, expressing their own opinions, and presenting a dialogue at a clothing store.

Comprehensible Midwest Conference—Asia Society is sponsoring partial registration fees for Chinese teachers to attend this training in Milwaukee September 27–29, 2019. The nation’s foremost trainers will empower teachers to create joyful, personalized, effective, and equitable language acquisition through comprehension-based language instruction.
 
NSLI-Y Scholarships to Study Abroad—The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, offers merit-based scholarships for students to study a less commonly taught language. Application deadline: October 30, 2019
 
Franklin R. Buchanan Prize—The Association for Asian Studies invites submissions for the Franklin R. Buchanan Prize, awarded annually to recognize an outstanding curriculum publication on Asia designed for any educational level, elementary through university. Deadline: November 1, 2019
