Desert gathering to share info about threatened species

Indigenous rangers, community and scientists gathered in the desert in June to share information and talk about healthy country and people. The 2019 Species of the Desert Forum (SODF) was held 18-20 June at Paruku, south of Mulan at the edge of the Great Sandy and Tanami deserts. [Read more]

Two more stations undergo wildlife assessment

Both Challa Station and Carey Downs Station have recently become registered Land for Wildlife properties. Rangelands NRM’s ‘Land for Wildlife’ (LfW) program is providing land managers the opportunity to better integrate conservation values into a productive pastoral/grazing system. [Read more]

Collaborative science showcased at Shark Bay Fair

More than 80 participants gathered at Hamelin Station Reserve this month for the Hamelin Science Fair, an event showcasing the science research and work in the Shark Bay (Gutharragunda) area. [Read more]
Feral animals controlled to help conserve Gnaraloo turtle rookeries

Another year of controlling ferals animals on Gnaraloo Station will see continued protection of the marine turtle hatchlings. For eight consecutive years foxes, feral cats and wild dogs have been controlled on Gnaraloo Station from near the coast through to the boundary at Lake McLeod. [Read more]
Rangeland Roundtable gets rangeland science discussion going

The ‘Rangeland Science Roundtable’ met this month to discuss We need to do ‘it’ differently. What is IT? The Roundtable is a monthly forum for people passionate about contributing to rangeland social, economic and ecological science. [Read more]

'Outback Roads’ manual to help better manage roads

A new field manual to assist outback land managers to better manage their roads has been released. ‘Outback Roads’ aims to assist in the reduction of environmental impacts of erosion and landscape dehydration. [Read more]

Board and Staff changes

Gearing for growth and diversification, Rangelands NRM is driving its mandate to deliver an impact-investment model based on a range of diversified commercial activities, with the aim to fund future activities in the WA rangelands. Some changes to the Board reflect this. We've also some new staff to introduce. [Read more]

RALF Update

Mez, Jardine and Sarah Rangelands NRM RALFs (Regional Agricultural Landcare Facilitators) have all been busy in the last three months.  [Read more]

Introducing Paddock Power

'Introducing Paddock Power’ a new project funded by Meat & Livestock Australia and the Northern Territory Department of Primary Industry and Resources has commenced in the Northern Territory. It has previously been demonstrated that developing more watering points achieves better pasture utilisation and increases carrying capacity. But, what has not been determined is how an increase in infrastructure improves breeder herd performance and/or live weight gain. This is what this project aims to determine with a completion date of April 2021. [Read more]
