Everyone’s favorite bedbug newscycle

...has local ties, of course. GW School of Media and Public Affairs prof Dave Karpf poked fun at New York Times opinion columnist Bret Stephens on Monday by kinda calling him a bedbug on Twitter, Stephens escalated the situation, and meme hilarity ensued. But now GW’s provost has invited Stephens to campus to “speak about civil discourse in the digital age”?? Let sleeping bedbugs lie.

no halfway home?

At the intersection of zoning issues, federal control and frustration with developers lies the future of DC’s only halfway house for men, Hope Village. Following decades of operation impeded by recent turmoil, former federal inmates in DC could be left without a place to reside immediately after serving time in prison come October.

Keeping cyclists safe

The number of cyclists in DC has *quintupled* in the past 15 years! But somehow, we’re still not following through on how cities can keep people safe while they bike. (Researchers say bike lanes should be protected and separated from cars.)

  • How not to keep bikers safe: Three Secret Service Suburbans idled in the bike lane in so Ivanka could go to Starbucks in Columbia Heights.

New age American values

While acting like baby boomers has drawn an audience over 250,000, holding onto their values is becoming increasingly unpopular. A new poll suggests that once traditional values, like religion, patriotism and having kids, are not so hip.

This is your formal invitation to our Summerhouse
