Do not mourn...Vote by Mail!
DACC Members and Friends,
We had a wonderful meeting at the Library last evening. We had to bring out extra chairs as the room was packed!
Butte County Clerk/Recorder Candace Grubbs joined us to explain all the changes in voting in Butte County with is now fully Vote by Mail. She had a thorough Powerpoint describing how the new system will work. She emphasized repeatedly that no postage is necessary for the ballots and that it is important to sign the outside of the envelope. One member who had voted in yesterday's AD1 special election with the new ballot noted that it felt unnatural to close the flap of the envelope over her signature on the outside of the envelope. Candace explained that this was to address privacy concerns and demonstrated how the signature would be revealed and checked without fully opening the ballot envelope. Really neat system.
DACC meetings are the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM at Chico Library

Speaking of elections...
Elizabeth Betancourt  the endorsed Democratic Candidate in the AD1 Special Election won the Primary on Tuesday with 39.1% of the vote. The nearest Republican competitor, who received $200k in support from the Realtors and the Prison employees Union garnered only 36.4%.  Congratulations Elizabeth!
Now we need to help her as the General special election will be on November 5th. For the Primary Butte County Democrats sent 1000 GOTV postcards for Elizabeth along with many phone calls and Texts. Check in with The Betancourt sites  for ways to get involved and support her campaign.

She is a great candidate who would skillfully and effectively represent Assembly District 1.

And...
The Yards sale was announced at last night's meeting:

DACC is having another Yard Sale!  Another great opportunity to get rid of your excess stuff and help us raise money for our important work.  Clean out that clutter!  Exercise equipment gathering dust?  Clothes you will never wear again? Artwork you’ve grown tired of?  We’ll take it.  The date is Saturday, September 28th.  The location of the sale will be at Robin Keehn’s house, 273 E. 3rd Ave. You can drop stuff off at that address beginning on Wednesday, September 25th.  If you have large items you cannot transport yourself, OR if you you absolutely must get things gone sooner than the 25th, contact David (530-566-2898 or davidwelch311@gmail.com) for help with transport or another location to drop things off.

Thank you,
Bill Monroe
