SPOTLIGHT ON PUBLIC ART
JASON PAWLEY + SEAN VALI | WE MAKE OUR OWN MOUNTAINS
THE UNDERGROUND

This month’s Spotlight on Public Art features We Make Our Own Mountains by local artists Jason Pawley and Sean Vali. The mural is located within the Underground in the Invited Artist Gallery. Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership funded the project in October 2016 and it was completed in just one weekend.

You don’t have to go far to find more of their art -- both artists have extensive work throughout Oklahoma City. Pawley is an Oklahoma City-based artist, graphic designer, screen printer, and muralist who has been practicing these skills since 2000. His passion for art has given him opportunities to showcase his work all over the Oklahoma. Vali is also an Oklahoma City-based artist whose work is regularly featured in exhibitions locally and beyond. Often working outside of traditional art venues, Vali’s artwork can be seen in murals across the city, notably within the Plaza District and at the Plaza Walls Mural Expo.

When talking about the mural, Jason Pawley said, "We build our own mountains is about the duality of having mountains to overcome in life and being able to create and control those mountains." This large-scale, colorful piece on each side of the hallway is worth a stroll on your way to work or just for fun!
