LAUNCH OF THE 2018-2019 ANNUAL REPORT: BUILDING A COMPENSATION REGIME THAT WORKS

LANCEMENT DU RAPPORT ANNUEL 2018-2019 : ÉTABLIR UN RÉGIME D’INDEMNISATION QUI FONCTIONNE

Since 2016, we have been working actively to develop and implement an action plan to facilitate access to justice for victims.

The federal Fund provides compensation to victims for all remaining costs, in the event of a major crude oil accident where the damages exceed the railway company’s mandatory insurance coverage.

Here are a few highlights for 2018-2019:

No accidents triggered the Fund’s responsibility
Accidents involving crude oil being monitored
- Two railway accidents involving crude oil occurred, but neither triggered the Fund’s involvement
More than $22 M was collected in fees from railway companies
- At the end of the fiscal year, the Fund had a total of over $44 M
Readiness : a key objective for the Administrator and her team
New Outreach activities and engagement with stakeholders
Claim process for loss of fishing, hunting and gathering opportunities relevant to Indigenous claimants

Depuis 2016, nous nous acharnons à travailler à élaborer et mettre en œuvre un plan d’action afin de favoriser l’accès à la justice pour les victimes.

La Caisse fédérale fournit une indemnisation aux victimes pour tous les frais restants, dans l’éventualité que les dommages d’un accident majeur impliquant du pétrole brut excèdent le montant d’assurance obligatoire d’une compagnie de chemin de fer.

Voici quelques points saillants pour l’année 2018-2019

Aucun accident n’a entraîné l’intervention de la Caisse
Surveillance d’accidents impliquant du pétrole brut
- Deux accidents ferroviaires impliquant du pétrole brut sont survenus, mais n’ont pas entraîné l’intervention de la Caisse
Plus de 22 M$ reçus en contributions des compagnies de chemin de fer
- La Caisse avait plus de 44 M$ à la fin de l’exercice
Préparation : un objectif principal pour l’administratrice et son équipe
Nouvelles activités de relations externes et d'engagement des intervenants
Processus de demandes d’indemnisation pour les demandeurs autochtones, en ce qui a trait à la perte de possibilités de chasse, de pêche ou de cueillette
