Kim Crawford was one of New Zealand’s top winemakers – he became involved in wine-making while completing a BSc in microbiology and botany at Massey University, and launched his own label in 1996. New Zealand is his “virtual vineyard”, and he utilises small select vineyards in Marlborough, and Hawke’s Bay located in predominantly coastal sites, where the grapes benefit from long days, clean breezes and crisp nights, which allows them to ripen slowly. This helps to build flavour intensity, and flavour is the core of their philosophy. In fact, Master winemaker Anthony Walkenhorst describes himself as the “guardian of flavour”, and making good wine is simple: Focus on Flavour!
