Join the Alpine Club!
This year, we are again thrilled to Adopt-an-Alp from Switzerland. From the beginning of October, Alp Steiners Hohberg, near the city of Fribourg, will be exclusively sending us their Alpkäse, Raclette, and their to-die-for Vacherin Fribourgeois. More info can be found here.

This cheese is going to be very popular, so not to be disappointed and to guarantee your cheese, you can join the Steiners Hohberg Alpine Club. This will reserve your Alp cheese for the months of October, November and December, and includes delivery to your doorstep!

Not only will you get this special and unique cheese, but, you will also receive a unique T shirt to celebrate the occasion, drawn by our resident artist, and cheesemonger, Amanda Willey.

Jump online to read more, and reserve your Adopted Alp's Cheese and T shirt!

And get ready for more celebrations and Swiss fun, as we have the return of Gabriella Martina, and her yodeling and stories, on Saturday November 2nd!
Prairie Tomme
Right on the western border of Missouri, across the Missouri River from Kansas, and slightly north of the sprawling Kansas City, sits Green Dirt Farm - a sheep farm and cheesemaking facility, which was opened in 2002.

The farm has their own mixed breed flock of sheep, which graze on the local pastures. These local pastures have been sustainably built up over the years with only the use of natural fertilizer: read sheep manure. The high quality soil produced this way, leads to rich grass, and ultimately high quality milk and cheese.

The Prairie Tomme is modeled on an aged French tomme de brebis, but with a more complex taste than we've found in a French tomme before: milky, brown buttery, lactic and grassy. The ivory white paste even has scattered crystals throughout, for that extra textural sensation.

Definitely a cheese with a lot to say for itself!
Appalachian
After a summer waiting, we're thrilled to finally have the Appalachian back at Boston Cheese Cellar.

The Appalachian is a wonderful take of the classic Tomme de Savoie, made by Meadow Creek Dairy in Virginia.

The Appalachian is made from raw cow's milk. Meadow Creek Dairy's herd of Jersey cows graze on the grass in the meadows in the highlands of Virginia, which is why the cheese is so rich and flavorful.

They are milked in Spring through Summer, which is why we are receiving the first Appalachians of the season - they were created in early Spring, and have now aged sufficiently!

Below the cheese's white and mottled grey natural (and edible rind) you will find a firm, straw colored interior dotted with little eyes.

It has a lovely mouth filling creamy taste, with a touch of salt, and a strong final lingering nutty grassiness.

The best 'Tomme de Savoie' you can find in the USA, for sure.
